Summary
EMS/SCADA Database Engineer / Analyst
Are you ready to drive innovation and ensure the reliability of critical energy systems? Join our Transmission Network team as an IT Solutions Engineer/Analyst, where you'll play a key role in building SCADA models for the APS EMS (Energy Management System), supporting the integration of new resources into AGC (Automatic Generation Control) and helping ensure the safe reliable operation of the Arizona Transmission system.
In this role, you will:
Support and optimize SCADA models, EMS One-lines, AGC, and EMS sustainability projects.
Provide support to the Energy Control Center and field personnel.
Drive clean energy initiatives, including Ambient Adjusted Ratings (AAR) and renewable integration.
Ensure system reliability and performance by troubleshooting software and infrastructure issues.
Contribute to APS’s 100% clean energy goal by 2050 and support new customer growth.
Play a critical role in advancing automation and grid modernization projects.

Minimum Requirements
EMS/SCADA Database Engineer / Analyst II | Transmission Network
Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
AND two (2) years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
OR (for positions in IT Digital Solutions Delivery) an advanced degree in Data Science, Data/Quantitative/Business Analytics or Economics, Mathematics or Engineering with a focus in Data Science is required.
Requires basic technical subject matter knowledge within a job area or system
EMS/SCADA Database Engineer / Analyst III | Transmission Network
Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
AND five (5) years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications
Knowledge of multiple programming languages, database management systems and development platforms
Skills in understanding and explaining highly technical issues and solutions in non-technical terms; working effectively in teams and across organizations; balancing and prioritizing between multiple work streams; collaborating with colleagues and teams in different fields across a diverse organization; solving advanced complex problems in own area of work
Major Accountabilities
Educates, Mentors and Empowers junior level employees by sharing knowledge openly and pro-actively
Applies deep knowledge in specific technical areas to process, provides support with, and solves large and complex support requests within the energy management system (EMS), the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, and other Energy Control Center (ECC) automation systems
Contributes to development of new, innovative EMS and SCADA support processes and tools
Leads high level troubleshooting of the SCADA system
Leads and communicates development of service, implementation and support procedures
Analyzes performance reports from across practices and contributes to resulting strategic business decisions
Identifies and independently assesses impact of high risk changes and institutes organization-wide mitigation actions
Creates and implements more complex improvements that mitigate risks and create a more reliable and efficient electrical grid
Sets best practices for EMS solution alignment with relevant industry, regulatory and technical requirements
Provides guidance and assistance to other employees as the lead
May manage large projects or initiatives

Home Based: Home based employees primarily work from their home offices and come into an APS facility on an as-needed basis.
*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.

CIP Requirement:
This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
