Indian Health Service Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner, Multiple Specialties) in Phoenix, Arizona

Summary This position is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement for the Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) with specialty certification or working in a specialty clinic/department located in the Phoenix Indian Medical Center. Incumbent independently provides direct medical care appropriate to their specialty area in various departments at the facility. Responsibilities This announcement covers Advanced Practice Nurses (APN), Nurse Practitioners, (NP) who have a specialty certification (Acute Care, Adult/Geriatric, ED, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Women's Health, etc.); or FNPs who will be working in a specialty clinic/department or the ED (with documented ED experience.) The NP works as an independent nurse practitioner in their specialty, and will perform the following duties: Order, perform or interpret the results of diagnostic tests. Analyze and interpret patient's histories, symptoms, physical findings or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses. Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care and professional practice guidelines. Make decisions concerning medical care needs of patients, which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribed medications, consults and referrals. Diagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections and injuries. Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, dosage and frequencies. Counsel patients about drug regimen and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications and herbal remedies. Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks. Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances. Positions may include primary care NPs (AGNP), PNPs, ED (with documented ED experience), PMHNPs, Women's Health, Surgery/Wound Care, and other medical specialty areas. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Education: Applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Area of specialties for positions may include, but are not limited to: Acute Care, Anesthesia, Geriatric, Midwifery, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory or other specialties identified for the position. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional Licensure Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
