Job Description Summary

Penn’s Master of Health Care Innovation forges a diverse network of innovative thinkers and leaders passionate about improving health care. The multidisciplinary curriculum—taught by leading, active experts—provides students with the knowledge, skills, and expertise needed to tackle today’s urgent health care issues.

Core topics include health policy, behavioral economics, operations management, leadership, health equity, and innovation methodologies. MHCI students are working professionals with diverse backgrounds in health care and related fields, who begin to apply immediately what they learn.

Launched in 2017 as Penn’s first fully online degree, the MHCI has 163 alumni and a student retention rate over 90%. Alumni remain engaged in meaningful ways, and the impact of their MHCI experience is evident.

Job Description

Seeking a Marketing and Communications Consultant to recommend new methods to advance qualified leads to applicants and to establish a broader, deeper reach that can sustainably drive new leads and inquiries. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Identify networks and organizations with health care professionals who are eager and able to pursue a Master of Health Care Innovation and grow their professional impact.

  • Initiate connections (who) and recommend specific methods (how) to engage potential students.

  • Review current messaging and communication channels for nurturing leads and driving applicants in progress through to submission, and propose improvements.

  • Identify opportunities to raise brand awareness among potential students and program champions.

  • Coach MHCI staff on next steps, from handoff through evaluation of efforts and outcomes.

  • Attend check-in calls as needed during the project.

OBJECTIVES: To identify and plan resource-effective marketing and communications opportunities to increase the volume of qualified applicants to the Master of Health Care Innovation, from generating leads to engaging prospects to converting to applicants.

To propose implementation and evaluation methods for MHCI staff.

DELIVERABLE: A resource-effective marketing and communications plan for MHCI staff to implement (possibly with external support) to generate quality leads, nurture their engagement, and drive qualified applicants to submit applications. May include an annotated list of contacts, metrics for success, and a process for evaluation and iteration.

TIMELINE: Deliverable due to the MHCI team by October 15, 2024. Staff coaching, periodic results reporting and iterations through, tentatively, May 31, 2025. Expected effort 10–12 hours/week during discovery and development phases; 2–4 hours/week after implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate will have relevant experience in marketing and communications as related to the broad health care field, as well as a solid network and awareness of current health care trends. Candidates will have demonstrated success and tangible results in growing conversions, increasing reach, developing successful strategies, and evaluating results and iterating.
