Summary:

Set-up and maintenance of equipment and operation room suites for procedures. Demonstrated ability to apply basic principles of asepsis and sterile technique in practice setting. Delivery of patient care under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse/Physician.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates Patient-Centered Care by showing courtesy, compassion, sensitivity and respect in all interactions with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel.

  • Displays a cooperative attitude and responds with respect to directions and recommendations from supervisor.

  • Supports ongoing improvement of client satisfaction: Returns phone calls and emails promptly, attends meetings as requested Is politically sensitive to clients/patients environment.

  • Is knowledgeable in their area

  • Timeliness on completing projects Data provided is accurate and reliable

  • Identify the competencies required for each patient population that the employee works with (neonate, child, adolescent, young adult, middle adult and older adult)

  • All employees when carrying out their duties are responsible for patient/ employee safety and thus should be aware of general safety requirements and all specific safety requirements for their position (as determined by the Dept. Head)

  • Participates in Entity and Department wide initiatives for Patient /Employee safety

  • Demonstrates an awareness of patient/ employee safety when carrying out daily responsibilities of their position.

  • Validation of annual competencies required for the position

  • Sets up and secures supplies and equipment needed for procedures

  • Demonstrates practices consistent with infection control.

  • Follows principles of aseptic and sterile technique (gowning, gloving, surgical scrub, traffic control).

  • Assists with transportation of patients, case carts, equipment

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver safe and accurate care to patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse/Physician.

  • Provides patient support during the administration of anesthesia.

  • Assists in opening sterile supplies in preparation for procedures.

  • Assists with positioning and transfer of patients.

  • Provides retraction during orthopedic procedures under direct supervision of physician.

  • Utilizes proper body mechanics while turning and transferring patients, and in movement of equipment.

  • Demonstrates understanding of principles OR retraction.

  • Demonstrates proper maintenance of equipment.

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge and principles of positioning.

  • Demonstrated competency in selected psychomotor skills.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED required.

  • One year previous hospital peri-operative experience preferred.

  • CPR required.
