Lead Messaging and Collaboration Engineer

Job Summary:

  • The Lead Messaging & Collaboration Engineer is responsible for providing guidance to the engineering team for the delivery of Email & Collaboration tools to the organization. The Lead will serve as a technical escalation point for team members. This role will also provide hands-on technical implementation, troubleshooting, maintenance and monitoring support.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership and guidance to the team.

  • Represents the team during technical and project planning sessions with internal and external stakeholders and partners such as architecture, service providers, vendors and business leadership.

  • Identifies and implements technical and operational process improvements.

  • Leads capacity planning, performance management and root cause analysis.

  • Administers and supports Email Services (Exchange Online) and Collaboration tools including Teams, OneDrive and Electronic Faxing.

  • Responsible for Microsoft 365 License administration.

  • Performs day-to-day management and administration for Exchange Online with an Office 365 hybrid/cloud environment.

  • Builds and supports telephony integration with Teams.

  • Builds automation using tool such as Power Shell.

  • Manages roles and services, user permissions, email queues and dynamic distribution groups.

  • Supports issues related to group mailboxes and distribution lists.

  • Supports the enterprise in a 24/7/365 environment with the ability to provide on-call support.

  • Works with Azure AD and Active Directory.

  • Develops future strategies for adoption and deployment of Messaging & Collaboration products and services.

  • Supports Security & Compliance by assisting in the configuration and management of anti-phishing and anti-spam and encryption technologies.

  • Creates and maintains technical documentation.

  • Installs, configures and manages email routing devices and services such as Cisco IronPort and Proofpoint.

  • Provides Tier 3 support to internal technical teams.

  • Supports Enterprise Electronic Faxing systems such as RightFax its integration points with applications and multi-function devices.

  • Interfaces with vendors and service providers to evaluate, design and support new products and services.

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required).

  • 10+ years of experience working as a Systems Administrator supporting Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange or similar environments (Required).

  • 6+ years of experience in a role in a role with responsibility for the administration of MS Azure or Office 365 services including Exchange, Teams and OneDrive (Required).

  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred).

  • Proven ability to triage and properly classify incidents and prioritize work efforts accordingly.

  • Understanding of ITIL concepts and Change Management processes.

  • Hands on experience with implementation, deployment, or support for Exchange Online including working with Hybrid environments.
