Position Description: We are recruiting a psychiatrist to join the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) on the short-stay inpatient unit at the HUP Cedar Campus. HUP Cedar is a longstanding community-based and mission-driven hospital located in southwest Philadelphia. Penn is proud to continue the tradition of serving the mental health needs of the neighborhood and Philadelphia region through two adult inpatient units, an inpatient detoxification unit, a consultation/liaison service, and a brand-new, state-of-the-art CRC.

The HUP Cedar Psychiatry team is committed to providing high-quality care in a community mental health setting. The clinical team works closely with HUP, Penn Medicine, Penn’s Department of Psychiatry, and the city of Philadelphia to achieve these goals.

  • Inpatient psychiatrists will treat up to an average of 12 patients per day.

  • The inpatient population is predominantly underserved and experiencing serious mental illness.

  • Psychiatrists treat two primary populations of patients: those who self-refer for treatment and those who are admitted involuntarily.

  • Psychiatrists also treat patients referred from the medical/surgical services from the Penn Medicine’s academic hospitals in downtown Philadelphia.

  • Inpatient psychiatrists work with a psychiatric APP, 2-3 nurses, 2-3 behavioral health techs, and a social worker.

  • Inpatient psychiatrists also work with a dedicated medical APP for medical co-management as well as consulting physician and surgeon specialists.

  • The CRC physician will have the opportunity to work with nursing and advanced practice students.

Schedule: Monday- Friday 8am-5pm

Full-time psychiatrists are required to take up to 8 weekends of paid inpatient rounding call per year.

Minimum Requirements : Board certified/ eligible PA medical license in psychiatry
