THE POSITION
Are you ready to take on new challenges in your trade while providing vital services within the Commonwealth? If so, the Department of General Services (DGS), Environmental Control Center, is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Refrigeration Specialist. This is an excellent opportunity to utilize your experience to analyze performance and efficiency, troubleshoot issues and faults, and repair complex HVAC and refrigeration equipment malfunctions within DGS owned and managed facilities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As one of our HVAC Refrigeration Specialists, you will showcase your knowledge and experience to keep our facilities running efficiently by maintaining complex HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Your work on various equipment will include analyzing performance and efficiency, installation, balancing, testing, troubleshooting issues and faults, repairing malfunctions, and other related duties that may arise. Excellent communication skills are vital, as you will regularly interact with the building automation systems, technicians, other trades persons, contracted personnel, engineers, and other technical staff.
You may also have the opportunity to act as our department liaison, providing mechanical expertise and facility knowledge while scoping future projects or resolving design and function issues with current projects. Additional responsibilities consist of providing on-the-job training to lower-level trades personnel, as well as the recovery and recycling of refrigerants by ensuring equipment is carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules and regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Note: This position is considered essential. You will be required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Five years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including three years working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes three years working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.
Special Requirements:
You must possess an active EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.
You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
Additional Requirements:
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
