The Location: Penang, Malaysia

The Site: There are two locations in Malaysia; Jalan Penang (about 500 team members) and Kuala Lumpur (about 200 team members). Team members are from various divisions within S&P Global, the majority are Finance professionals, Finance Operations, FP&A, Accounting, and Finance Systems Technology. This position is based in Penang and co-ordinates with the Kuala Lumpur site lead for an overall vision for Malaysia.

The Impact: As the Malaysia Site Leader, you are representing S&P Global within the region (which may include relationships with universities, government, etc.) as an ambassador for the S&P Global brand. You will partner with internal and external stakeholders to build and attract key talent for the site to further the business objectives of our various divisions. You will provide oversight to manage risk and influence key decisions related to the site and business strategy. As a key leader within the Real Estate Team, reporting to the SVP, Global Real Estate Services, you will be setting a high bar and role-modeling our core values of Discovery, Partnership, and Integrity.

Responsibilities:

Representing S&P Global from an enterprise perspective

  • As required, representation within the region from a community, media & public relations perspective (may include relationships with universities, government, etc)

  • Providing oversight to critical country/regional risk and other factors (e.g. Security, Operational Risk, Crisis Management, Regulatory/Legal, and Business Continuity), and country/regional scenario planning

  • Support the Country Risk Assessment process that will be led by the Risk Management function

  • Finding opportunities for efficiencies in the country/regional operations, including shared services, office space, taxes, and other areas (includes co-ordination with CBRE facilities to ensure site is operational at optimal levels. Also includes coordination of Town Halls and preparation of site communications)

  • Connecting country/regional strategies and business development opportunities when it involves multiple divisions at the same time (eg. DEI initiatives. Also includes relevant communications/touch points - including education around the site to others)

  • Build out a robust talent pool that meets future needs and assist our divisions who wish to grow their footprint at the location

Protecting the Enterprise

  • Protecting S&Ps reputation

  • Ensuring a strong culture of ethics, compliance to all applicable laws & controls. It is the Lead’s responsibility to act where necessary

  • Ensuring the implementation of appropriate corporate governance of country/regional legal entities and their regulatory reporting

  • Propose opportunities for local legal entity optimization

  • Prepare plans/build out a robust business continuity plan and other country/regional scenario plans as required to manage risk (security, operational risk, crisis management, regulatory/legal).

Regional Steering Committee (RSC)

  • Committee to meet once a quarter (as a minimum). Size and membership are at Lead’s discretion. Usually includes key business & functional heads

  • Site Lead is responsible for developing the agenda (relevant items include Strategy Coordination, Enterprise Protection, People & Risk matters, Audit themes, Vendor Governance, External Relations, Local talent identification, collaboration around local engagement score activities and/or social events)

  • Minutes should be taken and shared with SPGI’s Corporate Secretary and SPGI’s Operating Committee inclusive of both sites within the country

Reporting

  • The Site Lead reports into their hierarchical manager for day-to-day business responsibilities, including special projects

  • The Site Lead should report on metrics defined by their activities and the activities of the RSC

What We’re Looking For:

Critical experiences:

  • Held a senior position in a global company with multi-country responsibility and demonstrated cross-cultural effectiveness

  • Track record of consistently meeting or exceeding goals and metrics

  • Demonstrated ability to design, drive and pace organizational change and bring others along

  • Experience leading through Mergers and Acquisitions and related integration processes

  • Risk management and development of governance frameworks aligned with the Finance function

Critical leadership competencies:

  • Ability to understand and balance short-term targets while achieving long-term growth for the business

  • Must be able to operate nimbly, adjusting to real-time demands while remaining focused on strategic priorities

  • Ability to delegate and empower the right people, set up the right structures, goals and metrics, and set high standards and move fast

  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, retain talent

  • Must be able to collaborate with peers as part of a cross-functional leadership team and as a partner to key stakeholders

  • Ability to navigate the complexities of a global matrix organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or an advanced degree in business, management or finance and/or professional certification

  • Proactive self-starter. Ability to lead and evaluate issues independently and in a fast-paced environment
