The Vice President - Surgical and Interventional Services provides oversight and is accountable for administrative, financial, regulatory, quality, and operational performance for Imaging Nursing Services, Perioperative Services, and Cath-Angio Lab/Interventional Nursing Services. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, developing and executing operational plans and strategy that support strategic objectives of the organization and service lines, directing, coordinating and evaluating the activities of the assigned departments and new programs. Participates with the other Vice Presidents in assisting with the overall management of the Hospital's operations. Partners with leadership in other areas of the organization to ensure smooth implementation of strategic initiatives for clinical services and service lines.

LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION/JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops comprehensive strategic and operation plans for the Centers of Excellence and service lines within scope.

  • Leads necessary change to optimize operations within the areas of oversight as well as areas that support and are impacted by these key services.

  • Through partnerships and data analysis develops system strategies to provide insight for key decision making to the SVP / CNO.

    Effectively provides direction and policy interpretation to department directors in managing their respective areas of responsibility; offers advice in handling special human resources matters and administrative concerns.

  • Consistently combines ethical judgment with technical skills within the policy and legal guidelines of the institution; understands the legal, social, economic, and political forces which influence the health care system.

  • Acts decisively and takes effective action appropriate to the circumstances as required. Effectively carries through to completion specific work projects assigned by the SVP/CNO relative to the operation of the institution of specific area of responsibility.

  • Effectively transfers knowledge gained from academic pursuits into actual work performance to produce quality outcomes.

    QUALITY MANAGEMENT/CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  • Effectively assists in providing leadership, direction, and the administration of operations to ensure compliance with established institutional objectives and the delivery of optimal quality health care services.

  • Assists the SVP/CNO in establishing an organizational culture committed to quality, safety, service, people, and improvement; maintains efficient and effective operations.

  • Consults with Direct Reports and medical leaders prior to recommending and implementing new policies and/or procedures; incorporates respective suggestions as appropriate.

  • Consistently assesses and improves departments' performance based on "customer" needs in order to develop and/or ensure that existing services maintain and delivery quality characteristics which meet the needs of and benefit the patients, staff and other customers.

  • Effectively ensures the maintenance of appropriate quality improvement and control programs in response to staff and patient feedback and internal standards of care and external requirements.

  • Demonstrates effectiveness in gathering, investigating, researching, and analyzing activities which may impact hospital-wide or interdepartmental operations, presents relevant findings, and suggests recommendations as appropriate.

  • Develops and maintains an effective system of information, records and reports, for all assigned departments utilizing manual and electronic systems.

    FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND COST CONTROL:

  • Creates comprehensive strategic plans that align with the mission and promotes affordability of services and sustainability of the Centers of Excellence and service lines. Continually encourages assigned department directors to recognize and utilize every opportunity to improve productivity efforts within their assigned area of responsibility.

  • Demonstrates effectiveness in assisting directors with preparing their annual department budgets, addressing capital equipment, personnel, inventories, supplies, and other departmental costs; institutional priorities, and reimbursement constraints are considered in budget preparations.

  • Adheres to timelines in submitting operating and capital budgets for approval. Monitors and adheres to budget.

  • Reviews variance reports and financial statements on a monthly basis and provides justifications for variances or unusual expenditures.

  • Demonstrates the ability to assist department directors in identifying efficient use of resources.

    HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT/STAFF DEVELOPMENT:

  • Consistently recommends and ensures a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons are available to provide support to patient care that is safe and service oriented.

  • Regularly encourages staff participation and input into communications and decision making. Promptly informs all assigned department directors of hospital policy or procedures changes along with any other issues that might affect their work routines.

  • Consults with Direct Reports and medical leaders on a regular basis to promote positive staff morale and a professional and productive atmosphere within the institution.

  • Ensures current job descriptions and criteria-based performance evaluation standards have been developed for each Direct Report; assists in revising performance standards as necessary. Regularly measures Direct Reports' performance against established criteria-based performance standards; utilizes evaluations as an objective management tool for counseling staff members to higher levels of performance to facilitate their professional development and maximize their contribution towards established institutional goals. Assists in developing individual performance objectives which are mutually agreeable with direct Reports.

    HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT/STAFF DEVELOPMENT:

  • Continually strives to provide motivating challenges which encourage continued growth and development of Direct Reports; recognizes and rewards the performance of staff members whose exceptional performance and personal efforts are deserving; creates and implements performance incentives as appropriate.

  • Demonstrates an understanding and appreciation toward the pressures, stress, and frustration which staff members experience during the course of their work routines; delegates sufficient authority to enable department directors to oversee the responsibilities inherent with in their assigned areas; promotes a sense of value and feeling of appreciation among staff members.

  • Assists in defining the scope of relationship, responsibilities, and authority of new positions as appropriate.

  • Always takes immediate action in serious disciplinary situations; documents actions taken and the rationale for the decision.

  • Promotes employee engagement through a variety of programs and activities.

    RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS/TEAMWORK:

  • Demonstrates and promotes the acceptance of patients, families, visitors and staff without regard to sex, race, creed, color, religion, national origin, age, veteran status - including Vietnam era and disabled veterans, physical / mental disability, disease process and sexual orientation.

  • Coordinates and integrates responsible services within the hospital by continually collaborating with other Vice Presidents, Medical Staff and Managers as appropriate.

  • Consistently demonstrates positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperates harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the institution's strategic goals and objectives. Participates in development / implementation of effective communication mechanisms among all hospital departments and services, the medical staff and administration.

  • Consistently expresses ideas in a clear, creative, and succinct manner adhering to timelines if applicable. Actively works at developing excellent verbal and written skills necessary for effective communication.

  • Participates in professional activities which effectively represent and promote good public relations for the institution at national, state, and local meetings, conferences, conventions, and community affairs.

  • Articulates Patient Safety Goals. Personal conduct supports compliance with Patient Safety standards.

  • Pro-actively influences, trains or mentors others to contribute to Patient Safety practices. Consistently demonstrates required competencies. Mentors, trains, or develops peers or team members to improve competencies.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

    Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university. Master's Degree in Hospital Administration or equivalent from an accredited graduate school program. Doctoral education preferred. National Certification Preferred

    Experience: Ten (10) years of administrative experience in hospital operations and a minimum of 3-5 years performing strategic planning activities.

    License/Certification: CA Registered Nurse (RN) or eligible

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $20,779.20 to $1,050,379.20
