Position Overview:

Integrates knowledge, theory and practice to properly execute procedures in assigned areas of the laboratory and deliver accurate results in a timely manner. With advanced training, maintains competence in all Cytology practices, to perform pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic procedures on biological specimens to aid health care providers in the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and prevention of disease. May be responsible for specimen/material receipt, preparation, interpretation, and archival/retrieval, according to department policies and procedures. Works cooperatively with physicians, clients, and staff to facilitate superior patient care and to represent the laboratory positively by acting with courtesy, dignity, respect, and professionalism. May also be responsible for performing specific procedures and/or orient other staff to the department.

Job Description :

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

ASCP-Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a Cytologist (CT)

CDPH-Licensure by the California Department of Public Health as a Cytotechnologist (CLM/CTT)

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

2 years recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Demonstrated advanced knowledge and technical competence in specimen collection and preparation, laboratory operations, interpretation, and quality assurance in cytology.

Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected time-frames.

Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks. Demonstrate sound judgment and problem solving relevant to assigned duties.

Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information system failures, shift-to-shift hand-offs, priority test orders, and specimen integrity issues.

Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence. Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients and staff.

Ability to compassionately and effectively interact individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors.

Successful completion of a CAAHEP accredited Cytotechnology program within the last five years

Pay Range is $63.38 to $79.22 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
