Ahtna, Inc. Project Engineer I/II/III - Alaska - Ahtna Infrastructure and Technologies in Palmer, Alaska

Description

Summary:

The Project Engineer will assist the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, and other Field Representatives in managing the construction of the project, working in conjunction with other Staff to ensure quality and timeliness of project construction and completion. This position may be performed from a site office location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)

  • General Contract and Subcontract administration
  • Construction Scheduling
  • Material and Equipment - procurement and expediting
  • Utility coordination
  • Shop drawing and submittal review and coordination
  • Project cost review, reporting, updating, and accounting
  • Review and processing of subcontractor invoices and payments
  • Participation in and documentation of project coordination meetings
  • Supervision and coordination of subcontractors' field installations
  • Review and negotiate change proposal pricing from subcontractors
  • Prepare change proposal pricing for self-performed work
  • Change order documentation and associated cost reporting and maintenance
  • Research and suggest options on construction means, methods and equipment
  • Maintenance of As-Built plans
  • Quality control - field and shop
  • Monitor and document jobsite safety and accident prevention
  • Project Closeout
  • Develops and administers project budgets and fiscal controls, contracts, and quality control provisions
  • Performs project cost estimating and value engineering as appropriate
  • Some travel will be required in support of other projects
  • May supervise, or escort other workers or subcontractors and ensure that safe work practices are always employed
  • Security tracking of files and project documents
  • Up to 75% of travel; up to 12 working hours per day while working in the field
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications:

All levels:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • Must be able to interpret construction drawings and communicate construction requirements to site construction superintendent and crew
  • Ability to pass a background check and/or obtain and maintain government security clearance
  • Some positions may require U.S. Citizenship
  • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record, able to drive company vehicle
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access and PowerPoint
  • Adept at explaining technical aspects of field work to internal and external clients verbally and in writing

Level - I

  • Zero (0) to Three (3) years of working experience in construction, environmental, or engineering design, specialized training, and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience

Level - II

  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of working experience in construction, environmental, or engineering design, specialized training, and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience

Level - III

  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years of working experience in construction, environmental, or engineering design, specialized training, and/or advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Federal Government projects highly desired
  • USACE Quality Control experience highly desired
  • North Slope of Alaska work experience
  • Estimating and Cost Control experience
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures

Working Environment:

  • May be indoors or outdoors, subject to confined spaces, changes in temperature, weather conditions, and noise levels.

Physical Demands (including but not limited to):

  • Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination.
  • Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday or as business/operational needs dictate
