The Opportunity

As the Global Employee Relations Director , you will have the opportunity to be responsible for helping to develop and manage employee relations strategies, function and operations globally. The focus of this role is on mitigating the potential negative impact of employee relations issues while furthering proactive Global Employee Relations efforts to create alignment, consistency and accountability in the management of employee relations and employee engagement and support. The Global Employee Relations Director will provide support in fostering an inclusive working environment through fair and ethical leadership and focus.

The Team

As part of BV Business Enablement , you will be part of the critical and forward-thinking group that enables our people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible by providing creative solutions. Functions in this group include CIO/Global Information Technology, Diode, ESH&S, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies to address global employee relations issues in the organization, as they are identified to ensure that issues are addressed proactively and managed at the local level to mitigate any adverse impact on the business at the national, regional and international levels.

  • Ability to utilize and leverage data and analysis in the identification of emerging and progressive employee relations trends and practices.

  • Identify and collaborate on updates to global policies, including updating internal policies in conjunction with the identification of global trends.

  • Provide industry thought leadership in employee relations to further best practices and progressive employee relations problem solving and solutions.

  • Lead, develop and manage an Employee Relations team working across multiple global business groups to provide guidance and counsel in resolving issues and grievances.

  • Provide subject matter expertise and industry best practice guidance regarding Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs, as well as federal and state labor laws.

  • Partner and collaborate with legal, compliance and/ or audit departments to promote respect and dignity in the workplace and to respond appropriately and fairly to employee relations concerns.

  • Foster positive employee relations throughout the company by identifying, developing and driving philosophies and programs to improve employee engagement in the workplace.

  • Determine areas where proactive training and education are needed, and work with appropriate partner in the COEs to create and implement.

  • Oversight and guidance on policies, procedures and programs to promote fair and efficient performance issues and reductions in force, in order to reduce legal risks.

  • Direct U.S. OFCCP/ Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) Compliance and development and productions of plans for all U.S. locations.

  • Direct and manage all AAP reporting, tracking and communication.

  • Ensure a diversity lens is applied to all employment policies and decisions.

  • Participate with company’s HR Counsel in the intake, and resolution of complaints and reports made to the company’s Alert Line, audits and related claims or litigation.

  • Directs and creates strategy for the Employee Assistance Program marketing and communication, and educates organization on benefits and scope of the program and other mental health and well-being initiatives.

  • Conduct analysis and identify process and policy improvements to mitigate risk and support a positive professional experience

  • Lead communication regarding labor relations issue management and resolution in the Company and the system, through proactive issue identification, issue resolution and ongoing collaboration.

  • Advise business unit leaders on the implications of short and long-term decisions, strategies, and large-scale change efforts that will yield sustainable business results.

  • Collaborate with HR and business leaders outside the U.S. to develop and maintain a global policy framework and practice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred.

  • 8 years progressive HR or Employee Relations leadership experience including experience leading a team.

  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to conduct thorough investigations effectively and efficiently.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build trust and confidence in all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated success in influencing professionals at all levels of the company using a consultative approach and methodology.

  • Resiliency and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • High level of judgment and stress management capabilities in times of growth and change.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with global workforce needs and compliance with international country labor laws

  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. Federal, state and local employment laws and trends

  • Thorough understanding of U.S. EEO and Affirmative Action Plans, processes and procedures

  • Basic knowledge of union environment

  • Strong leadership capability (team building, mentoring, change management, advising)

  • Strong supervisory skills

Program Management:

  • Ability to provide oversight and management to synthesize/bring synergy to multiple initiatives by establishing courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently, adjusting priorities, establishing management routines to effectively track progress and identify issues, removing barriers and leveraging resources.

Crisis Management:

  • Knowledge of procedures used and ability to rapidly mobilize and manage internal and external resources to deal with situations that have the potential for severe negative impact on the Company's reputation or business

Cross Functional Relationships:

  • Knowledge of and ability to articulate to senior management the benefits of supporting cross-functional objectives to achieve the business plan.

Global/Cultural Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of cultural differences in different regions or countries that might impact or limit the effectiveness of a promotion, property or program.

Negotiation:

  • Exploring alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain all parties' support and acceptance; striving for outcomes that are a win-win for all parties involved

  • Organizational savvy- ability to be a credible advocate and manage ambiguity while building strong relationships with leaders in the organization

Normal office environment with hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote
