Team & Job Overview

The Financial Products & Innovation team vision is to inspire innovative culture at EDC anchored on the customer to shape, accelerate, and create impact for Canada's International Trade. To deliver on EDC ambitious long-term strategic goals, we enable and empower multi-disciplinary teams working with us across three pillars of EDC innovation: Innovation Enablement (EDC Innovation Portfolio and tools, Market Intel and Innovation Research, Innovation Strategy development), Financial Product Innovation (end-to-end design of solutions from discovery to piloting and commercialization), and lastly, the Solution Suite Management pillar, focusing on product life-cycle management.

The team works with internal stakeholders and external partners to develop new solutions, enhance, and reposition existing products through product management and a deep understanding of client and partner needs, and ensure consistent application of product development and innovation best practices.

The team is looking for a Sr. Financial Innovation Lead with a strong financial and innovation background, strategy expertise, relationship building and influencing skills to help support the team as it leads the next generation of EDC customer centric innovation, financial products development, and product management. We are looking for a strategic thinker with a natural bias to action, whose values are rooted in open innovation, who can work well in the realm of the unknown and has a proven track record of rigorously seeing through the ideas from inception to customer impact.

Discipline Summary

The Sr. Financial Innovation Lead will report to the Manager or Director of the Financial Products & Innovation team and will be responsible for leading various phases of new financial product initiatives including triage & evaluation of new ideas, incubation, design, pilot phases product life-cycle management and scaling. In addition to understanding financing issues, financial markets terminology, product pricing models and general lending/underwriting practices, this individual must possess a high-level understanding of all areas of product development, with a particular focus on design thinking, digital user experience, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.

The role requires someone entrepreneurial with strong relationship skills and a bias to action, someone relentless in understanding and advocating for EDC customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages collection, aggregation and prioritization of financial product development ideas

  • Develops market-needs hypotheses and manages validation process

  • Leads stakeholder engagement sessions with SMEs and external partners for incubation-phase of initiatives

  • Collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders including banks, private sector companies, not-for-profits, government departments, as well as EDC business leaders, marketing, business development, IT and other multi-disciplinary teams to achieve customer acquisition, retention and served targets

  • Works closely with the product owners to create requirements, delivers product design and processes, and obtains required approvals

  • Leads a stream of financial product development for multiple products in the portfolio, including:

  • Defining and communicating a product vision at senior and executive level

  • Providing clear direction to the various product development teams, including financial solution parameters and various elements of the business model canvas

  • Proactively monitoring product analytics and recommending iterative choices based on customer needs and user behavior

  • Working with key internal stakeholders to drive the development and implementation of the go-to-market strategy for various products

  • Consistently represents the voice of the customer in product discussions and decisions, taking a data-driven approach to decision-making

  • Monitors product risk exposure and product performance, able to steer new product choices through internal risk review and authorization processes

Screening Criteria

  • Completed an Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field

  • Minimum 7 years experience in financial services (preferably in the capacity of underwriter or financial product manager)

  • Experience and/or deep knowledge of financial products (lending, insurance, guarantees, equity)

  • Financial analysis, credit and modeling skills

  • Applied knowledge of modern product management, innovation and design thinking

  • Minimum 3 years of Experience in stakeholder engagement, strategic planning and workshop facilitation

Assets

  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)

  • MBA or professional designation (CFA or CPA)

  • Fintech experience

  • Management consulting experience

Salary Range:

  • Fin. Product Innovation 19: Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $107,132 To $142,842 plus a performance-based incentive.

Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.

  • This role will be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.
