Team & Job Overview

What EPIC Does: The Economic and Political Intelligence Centre (EPIC) is a critical source of EDC’s market intelligence, trade research and economic modelling and forecasting. EPIC has two teams dedicated to focusing on issues relevant to Canadian exporters and EDC’s ability to support their global trade.

Collectively EPIC develops intelligence and insights to inform EDC’s decision-makers and Canadian exporters and investors. EPIC provides information, research and insights that helps EDC make informed decisions when offering financial solutions in support of Canadian exporters and investors. Externally, EPIC provides insight to Canadian companies through a variety of knowledge products, meetings with partners and customers and through other interactions such as speaking engagements, webinars, and other engagements.

EPIC is constantly seeking ways to innovate the way in which we assess and share our market intelligence insights. As a result, we’re actively working on new products (like regional outlooks, sector briefings) and key initiatives related to writing and presentation of data, analytics, big data, modeling, and structured analytical techniques.

We do this by fostering an environment of collaboration, rapid innovation and the application of a strategic lens to everything we do. Our analysts liaise with Canadian companies, industry associations, Government of Canada Departments, IMF, World Bank, and the OECD among other groups. We have access to diverse sources of research and data. We offer annual training and networking opportunities to ensure our analysts remain connected and at the leading edge of industry best practices.

Background on the Position: The successful candidate would be responsible for helping EPIC gets its research, knowledge and content to customers and the Canadian exporting community. They would be responsible for working with EPIC’s team in developing new content products, improving existing products and monitoring the performance of EPIC’s content. They would also work with partners from across EDC including the Knowledge Business, Marketing and others to manage content production and publication.

The successful candidate should have strong communication skills and understanding of how to communicate macroeconomic trends and data to varied audiences.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Vice-President (Economics) and Chief Economist to support external presentations and all content requirements within the group.

This position reports to the Director, Country and Sector Intelligence (CSI).

Discipline Summary

  • Lead the production, publication and impact of customer and internal facing economics knowledge products.

  • Manage content planning and operations, including the implementation of projects and product improvements.

  • Supports the creation and production of new products, research, and market intelligence content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the production, publication and impact of customer and internal facing economics knowledge products.

  • Provide support to the Vice-President (Economics) and Chief Economist for their content and presentation requirements.

  • Coordinate with the knowledge business team and relevant supporting teams (i.e. digital platform, social media, marketing) to ensure the successful deployment of content across distribution channels.

  • Provides research support and assists in the development of additional outlets for research and market intelligence.

Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, Political Science, International Relations, or in a related field.

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in macroeconomics and communicating economic concepts, or relevant experience

  • Experience with the production, creation, or management of economic and/or political research or market intelligence.

  • Advanced capabilities with PowerPoint and Excel

Asset

  • Experience in communicating economic concepts and forecasts to a general audience.

  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).

  • Experience with Power BI

  • Completed a master’s degree in economics, Political Science, International Relations, or in a related field.

Salary Range

  • (Econ & Political Analysis 15) Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $62,336- $83,116 plus a performance-based incentive

Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.

  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver.
