Team/position overview

Corporate Finance and Control is a collaborative group that provides financial planning, complex financial analysis, reporting under IFRS, taxation compliance and business reporting for EDC. Our group is hiring new members to help us meet the needs of our internal customers and is looking for innovative people interested in changing the status quo for the betterment of this growing and evolving organization.

As the newest addition to our team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to combine their solid accounting skills with a big picture understanding of business results and the related drivers in order to provide value-added and timely insights to our customers. This includes accessing and combining information from multiple information systems to analyze financial results, developing and improving internal and external reports, and implementing continuous improvements.

This position will be supporting the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA); a program developed, delivered, and administered on behalf of the Government of Canada.

Discipline Summary

  • Performs general accounting activities and maintains accounting and financial records and reports, including general ledger, financial statements, regulatory and management reports.

  • Prepares, analyzes and reports accounting transactions ensuring the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles.

  • Establishes and maintains accounting policies and controls, fiscal controls, prepares financial reports and safeguards the organization's assets.

  • Provides accounting guidance to ensure conformity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and company policies and procedures and ensures that relevant accounting standards are appropriately and consistently applied.

  • Provides financial support including forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing variations from budget.

  • Ensures all reports and disclosures comply with applicable government regulations, professional standards and organization policies.

  • Develops and implements new policies and processes to comply with newly issued accounting or financial reporting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides financial accounting and prepares financial statements, notes to the financial statements and reports in accordance with IFRS and approves journal entries and reconciliations.

  • Reaches beyond received data to review and analyze results from business units with a critical eye for meeting financial reporting requirements and a willingness to challenge others as needed.

  • Identifies opportunities to make enhancements to data to improve use and understandability.

  • Participates in various system implementation or enhancement projects, including consulting, recommending and implementing reporting requirements.

  • Explains difficult/complex issues and, in a manner that fosters mutual respect, uses tact and diplomacy to persuade others to adopt a point of view.

  • Researches and interprets new accounting standards/guidelines to assess potential impacts on financial reporting and accounting activities.

  • Provides advice on internal control issues and recommends and implements reporting enhancements.

  • Creates and maintains management reporting dashboards and reports to provide strategic, forward-looking financial information on a timely and accurate basis.

  • Provides complex financial analysis and modeling to support decision making and prepares data and input for forecasting and corporate planning purposes.

Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Commerce or other relevant discipline.

  • Professional accounting designation such as CPA or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business, accounting and/or financial analysis.

  • Experience working with large, complex databases.

  • Advanced knowledge of Power BI, Power Query and DAX.

  • Advanced knowledge of IFRS, accounting and financial analysis principles and practices.

  • Excellent MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint capabilities and strong ability to work with complex databases.

Assets

  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)

  • Experience in the financial sector

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to prepare and present complex quantitative and qualitative financial analysis in a clear and concise manner.

  • Experience with queries, report writing, data visualization and presenting results using MS PowerPoint.

Salary Range:

  • Acct. & Financial Analysis 17: Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $81, 012 - $108, 017 plus a performance based incentive.

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.

  • This role will be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.
