Summary

The Specialist Audio is responsible for the onsite execution of audio equipment for events within the region. During load-in and show, this person creates, edits, and manages content for the client. The role will also be assigned pre-production design responsibilities for several shows that they execute.

This position will support our Audio Visual and Event Technology team. The position follows an in-person schedule working full-time in-office and/or show-site based out of Orlando, FL.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works closely with client specs, sales staff, operations, and project managers to develop audio designs and to coordinate pre-production, onsite, and post-production activities in line with event budget.

  • Creates wiring diagrams and audio plots for shows based on budgeted designs; ensures on-site personnel have and understand this information.

  • Functions as onsite Client Contact and/or Crew Chief.

  • Fills the role of on-site Audio Engineer, Audio Director, System Tech as assigned

  • Directs the onsite crew that can include full time and/or part time labor including specialists, technicians, and union employees. Duties include hiring recommendation, training, assigning work, overseeing installation of equipment, and ensuring that activities are performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Handles on-site grievances up to and including notifying scheduling manager if anyone needs to be released from their duties.

  • Submits show reports for each event to Senior Leadership, which include, issues and successes on show, and evaluation of labor performance, which will be used to determine future assignments.

  • Ensures that company safety guidelines are followed and implemented on show site.

  • Directs load-in, load-out, install, and dismantle of equipment.

  • Directs and/or assist both technical and labor crews.

  • Responsible for ensuring the correct specification setup and optimization of meeting room, exhibits, and general sessions audio systems as needed.

  • Supervises the installation, optimization, and monitoring of the sound system during the event for audio systems.

  • Recommends audio personnel during scheduling process to ensure company resources are used effectively and follow company procedures and employee policies.

  • Evaluates the competency of Audio Specialists to ensure that Freeman’s quality standards are maintained.

  • Performs show-site duties for events within the region including supervising show site labor, operating gear, and troubleshooting.

  • Stays current with new and developing industry trends.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in related field preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years experience working in live sound reinforcement with a minimum of 5 years focused on corporate events; or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.

  • Ability to engineer instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to communicate how to install various related equipment.

  • Advanced understanding of the fundamentals of analog/digital audio, acoustics, radio and electronics.

  • Ability to install and troubleshoot complex sound/RF systems.

  • Experience with advanced audio networking.

  • Advanced experience with audio and RF measurement systems and optimization.

  • Experience drawing system design in AutoCad or VectorWorks.

  • Experience designing large-scale sound systems with company inventory.

  • Ability to lead audio crew.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid state drivers license required.

  • EAW Adaptive Certification, VTX Certification, Audinate Certification strongly preferred.

  • Yamaha CL/QL Certification preferred.

Travel 50% to 75%
