AUS Digital Utility Business Unit Director

POWER Engineers, Inc. is currently accepting internal applications for the Business Unit Director (BUD) position responsible for managing the Digital Utility Business Unit. The position reports to the Advanced Utility Solutions Division Manager. The position has responsibility to establish departments to serve the Geospatial, Grid Modernization and Advanced Design markets and grow market share in these markets. There is no specific location requirement for the position however the ability to visit all POWER offices (i.e., no travel restrictions within the US and Canada) is required. The position requires a solid understanding of the asset management, geospatial, grid modernization and design markets as well as software implementation and integration and trusted advisor consulting services. Candidates must possess the ability to collaborate with the Division’s Sales and Marketing department to develop and execute market strategy, strong corporate knowledge, and proven management and leadership skills. The successful candidate will establish the newly reorganized Digital Utility Business Unit with two departments and several service areas, be required to lead, mentor, and manage the BU’s managers and other senior leadership, develop the BU strategy, contribute to business development efforts, lead the BU leadership team, and represent the BU in all Division level activities.

The BUD is responsible for establishing and managing the BU such that day‐to‐day activities produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement, culture, the guidance of senior management and the division manager so as to achieve the goals of the business plan, to maintain POWER's quality standard, adherence to our standards and procedures and most importantly to meet the needs of our clients. Travel is required to build relationships with BU members and clients as well as to attend Division meetings. Key activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute the annual BU level business plan

  • Provide Leadership

  • Expand the Division’s presence in the Asset Management, Geospatial, Grid Modernization and Design implementation and consulting markets and create an internal identity that frames the Digital Utility Business Unit

  • Identify and communicate the BU’s unique Vision, Mission and Values

  • Engage our people and support them

  • Identify and create change

  • Motivate our teams

  • Promote a safety culture and assure staff have needed safety training and equipment

  • Ensure the Digital Utility BU’s capabilities fit within the division and company, market, industry trends, relationship to various market signals such as capital expenditures projection, government policy and regulations, technology trends and growth potential

  • Establish POWER and/or yourself or staff members as an energy technology implementation expert

  • Develop approach to standardize our solutions to maximize competitiveness

  • Represent the BU in AUS leadership and strategy meetings

  • Organization leadership development, planning and change management

  • Communication of company and division initiatives and messages to the management team

  • Lead and manage performance appraisals, compensation adjustments and bonus allocations through the BU senior leadership

  • Strategize and oversee recruiting for the business unit

  • Hire and mentor BU senior leadership and participate in hiring of key senior staff across the BU

  • Strategize and oversee staff development through training, progressive opportunity, coaching, and culture

  • Oversee the BU knowledge management efforts

  • Assist in positioning POWER as a leading provider of Asset Management, Geospatial, Grid Modernization and Automated Design software implementation

  • Strategize and oversee industry involvement

  • Provide input to the division marketing plans

  • Provide input to various emerging market strategies, focus groups, and company initiatives

  • Develop and maintain healthy relationships with peer directors across the company, AUS leadership, project managers, and key staff in the BU

  • Engage in business development

  • Visit and develop relationships with major BU clients

  • Manage attendance at company functions such as EMS, RMS, MicroMBA, etc.

Required Experience and Training:

  • 10 + years of Geospatial software implementation and integration experience in the energy industry

  • Proven ability to establish and/or grow a successful business line or service team

  • Experience with proposal development

  • Proven success in developing and maintaining positive client relationships

  • Proven success as a leader/manager of projects and teams within POWER

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Completion of all POWER Department Manager training courses

Desired Qualifications:

  • BS in business, computer science, GIS or related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of five years of managing experience at POWER

  • Three years of department management or higher experience preferred

  • Past participation and/or leadership in relevant AUS division initiatives

  • Solid relationships with leaders and teams in other business units and divisions

  • Demonstrated competence in working with multiple departments, project management and other divisions to deliver successful projects

  • Knowledge of POWER’s major Geospatial, Grid Modernization, and Automated Design clients

POWER is a fun engineering firm. That might seem contradictory to some, but it works for us!

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $170K-$200K per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
