National Park Service Maintenance Worker Supervisor (Trails) in Orick, California

Summary This position is located in Redwood National and State Parks, in the Facilities Division. This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. Responsibilities Maintenance Worker Supervisor (Trails) Duties: Oversight in the execution of work associated with repair/rehabilitation, cyclic/reoccurring maintenance, preventative maintenance, facility operations, and corrective maintenance of the parks trails. Oversight in the execution of work associated facility operations, preventative maintenance, reoccurring maintenance, corrective maintenance, and rehabilitation of historic trailside structures and other historic/non-historic trail related features such as masonry, wood, and steel structures. Oversight in the execution of operational and maintenance activities for six pit toilets. Operational activities include restocking supplies, removal of human waste, and cleaning toilet stalls. Maintenance activities include, but are not limited to toilet riser replacement and general exterior envelope maintenance (including mechanical parts, doors, porches, roofs, etc.) of the pit toilets. Ability to supervise maintenance workers involved in camp management, visitor contacts, and facility (buildings, utility, campsites, pit toilets, trails) maintenance. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments but don't work on a year-round basis. Pay status will be for 25 pay periods from January through December and will be in a non-pay status for one pay period in December. The position will be in non-pay status for one pay period the first service year. This may change for future service years depending on workload and budget; however, you will be notified by the supervisor in advance of any upcoming change to the non-pay period for the following year. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. There is no housing available for this position. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to few nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. You will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual basis. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, WS-4749-10 WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION (SCREEN OUT) Ability to Lead or Supervise (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. Knowledge of Materials. Additional Information This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
