Position Announcement

 

Utah Valley University is seeking a Professional-in-Residence faculty member for our EMS Education Program to educate and prepare our students to be exceptional practitioners in pre-hospital emergency medical care.

UVU's nationally accredited paramedic program has been training future paramedics for almost 25 years. We are committed to providing our students and community with excellence in paramedic education. Candidates for this position must have a demonstrated record of extensive professional experience in pre-hospital emergency care as well as an ability to teach the up-and-coming generation of pre-hospital practitioners. Preference will be given to candidates with experience as an educator and who demonstrate recent professional experience as a paramedic and/or critical care practitioner.

This EMS faculty position will be responsible for classroom and lab teaching for courses/modules; assistance in the recruitment and maintenance of clinical training sites; curriculum development, revision, analysis, and assessment; student evaluation and advisement throughout the program; participation in admissions; participation in accreditation activities and program self-study; as well as activities related to personal and professional development.

Applicants must be willing to teach face-to-face, hybrid and online, including live-streamed deliveries.

 

Summary of Responsibilities

 

• Teaches classes based on qualifications and departmental needs. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials (mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary. Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, verbal, practical, and performance testing.

• Maintains a desirable classroom environment. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms and laboratories by demonstration, discussion, visual aids, etc.

• Maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance and follow-up. Coordinates cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned.

• Establishes and maintains office hours and advises students during this time and at other time as needed. Submits requisitions for books, supplies and equipment necessary for the coursework.

• Assists counselors, departments chairperson, staff, and faculty in maintaining an effective program. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the summary of duties, plus 8 years paid full-time experience related to the program and discipline with 3-years teaching within discipline. See preferred qualifications for discipline and program-specific qualifications.

 

This position is intended to be a full-time, program-building position with time and energy commitments equal to those expected from a tenure-track assistant professor.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate degree in a related discipline plus 1 0-years of experience as a paid full-time paramedic provider in a 911-dispatched pre-hospital EMS system, 3-years critical care experience with commensurate certifications, 3-years teaching in higher education or critical care.

 

• Critical Care Certification(s) (i.e. FP-C, CCP-C, CEN, TNCC, CCRN, etc.)

 

• PHTLS Instructor certification

 

• AMLS Instructor certific tion

 

• GEMS Instructor certification

 

• EPC Instructor certification

 

• AHA Affiliate Faculty or AHA Training Center Coordinator experience

 

• Utah Bureau of EMS Instructor Endorsement

 

• Utah BEMS Course Coordinator Endorsement

 

• Experience Teaching College Level EMS/Critical Care courses

 

Licenses or Certifications:

Utah Bureau of EMS Paramedic licensure, or

 

*(As per CAAHEP standard III.B.1.b). May consider a candidate with substantial experience in out-of-hospital emergency care, with academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services, and with healthcare licensure at least equivalent to that of a paramedic. Submit supporting documentation.

• Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.

• Must possess strong communication skills, both oral and written with the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in a diverse, multi-cultural professional environment.

• Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Skills in accessing and disseminating academic research or scholarly work.

• Proficient in using technology that supports student learning, especially related to online platforms such as Canvas.

 

Abilities

 

• Work both independently and as part of a team to meet critical deadlines and enrollment targets.

• Assist college and department leadership in creating and attaining program goals.

• Develop relationships with community and regional agencies in support of the department's goals and objectives.
