City of Oneonta Library Director 1 #2025001 Training and Experience Exam in ONEONTA, New York

This examination will consist of a rated Training and Experience Questionnaire. Approved Candidates will be mailed a questionnaire which they will be required to complete and return to the Civil Service office. Applications submitted by mail must be postmarked no later than March 26, 2025. Applications submitted in person must be received at the HR office no later than 4:00 p.m. on March 26, 2025. VACANCIES: The eligible list established as a result of this examination will be used to fill one vacancy at Huntington Memorial Library, and any future vacancies that may occur during the life of the eligible list at Huntington Memorial Library. SALARY RANGE: $63,000 - $70,000 depending on qualifications DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An incumbent of this position has overall charge of a library and is also a major provider of professional library services. This may be the only professional position in the library. Supervision is exercised over the work of the other library personnel. Works under the general direction of the Library Board of Trustees. Does related work as required. Eligibility for a New York State professional public librarian's certificate at the time of application. Plans and implements library programs for patrons of all ages; Develops the library budget and may do grand administration; Administers the expenditures of library funds and the collection of library revenues; Develops long range plans for library service development, evaluating the effectiveness of the library's services and programs in relation to the changing needs of the community; Recommends new services, policies, and personnel actions to the Board of Trustees for approval; Directs and oversees the work of library employees; Administers personnel policies, prepares and/or reviews performance evaluations of staff members, hires support staff; Prepares state, local and other statistical or narrative reports as needed or required; Consults with Library System staff in developing, providing and promoting library services; Performs collection development by choosing library materials in appropriate formats; Provides reference and reader's advisory services and instruction to library users; Conducts original cataloging and classification and record editing; Designs and produces public relations and library instruction materials; 4. A conflict with a previously scheduled commitment to participate as a member of a ceremonial party, such as a wedding, baptism, bar mitzvah or graduation, or as a member of the immediate family or household of the individual for whom the ceremony is being held. 5. A conflict with a professional or educational examination, including Federal or New York State Civil Service or educational examinations. Examples of professional examinations include the Certified Public Accountant or Professional Engineer examination. Examples of educational examination include the Scholastic Aptitude Test and Graduate Record Examination. 6. A conflict with a previously scheduled vacation, professional conference or retreat for which a significant non-refundable deposit was made prior to the date the examination announcement was issued. 7. A conflict with a court ordered appearance. 8. Hospital confinement, medical emergency or health problem of the candidate or member of the immediate family or household in which candidate resides, if documented by attending physician. 9. Emergency weather conditions, verified by the local public safety agency, that result in the closing of specified roads, highways or independent transportation services, which prevent a candidate from reaching the test center. 10.
