Summary:
The Registered Nurse will diagnose and treat a patient's health problems. Perform health assessments to
identify new symptoms of possibly undiagnosed conditions or complications. Administer medication. Manage
and deliver restorative or palliative care to the ill, disabled and dying. Teach and counsel patients about maintenance of health and prevention of illness or complications. Contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team and as a consultant on health-related committees to plan and implement the health care needs of inmates. Execute medical regimens as prescribed by licensed physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and podiatrists, and dentists. Registered nurses must be licensed and have a minimum of one year work experience post licensure.

The responsibilities of the RN include but not limited to medication administration, MD order transcription, draft processing in and out, SHU and S-Block coverage, Infirmary coverage, Treatments, Emergency sick call, Immunizations, and other specialty clinics as assigned. Handle Iv's as needed and to respond to emergencies on dorms and in facility.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide professional nursing services which may include, but are not limited to, nursing interventions and their documentation, case finding, health teaching/counseling and provision of supportive and/or restorative care.
  • Participate in staff training, prepare clinical and administrative reports, maintain infection control standards, and function as a member of a treatment team. You may also act as a charge nurse on a unit or in a residence, or as house or unit supervisor in a nursing home.
  • Assuring that the safety and physical comfort of the patient are meet as well as the patient's emotional and spiritual needs.
  • Performing nursing procedures for which his or her training has provided the necessary skills and judgment.
  • Assisting with the rehabilitation of patients according to the care plan directed by the physician.
  • Observing and recording all pertinent information and reporting to the appropriate supervisor and physician.
  • Medication management.
  • Completes documentation as required and in accordance with the facilities' policy.
  • Accurately report patient status to supervisor.
  • Consistently practice standard precautions.
  • Performs all duties promptly in a competent and caring manner.
  • Maintain good communication among patients/residents and all healthcare personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate and handle many kinds of medical equipment.
  • Frequently move/lift between 50-100 pounds, depending on assignment requirements.
  • Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment.
  • Complies with all facilities' policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation.
Requirements:
  • Currently a Registered Nurse in New York State
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID 19 and comply with any testing and future vaccine mandates.
