Alafia Haven is a Texas state-licensed General Residential Operation (GRO) located in Odessa, Texas, dedicated to providing exceptional care and support for children and youth.
Our Home offers a comprehensive range of treatment services, including support for Emotional Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Primary Medical Needs. With a focus on holistic care, we maintain qualified nursing staff around the clock to monitor health conditions and administer necessary medical interventions, ensuring the well-being of every child in our care.
Alafia Haven serves Youths ages 5-17 in a safe and nurturing environment. Our single-family residential home is equipped with a state-of-the-art fire sprinkler and alarm system, prioritizing the safety and security of our residents.

Job Summary The Youth care specialist plays a vital role in supporting and guiding young individuals, particularly those with developmental disabilities or special needs. This position involves providing care, implementing care plans, engaging the children in conversation, intervening during crisis and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for youth.
The Youth Care Specialist must have the children in their line of sight at all times. The Registered Behavior Technician must also perform cleaning duties to maintain cleanliness of the cottages where the children live, as well as food service duties during mealtimes
What Youll Do
- Provide alert and attentive supervision.
- Accompanies and or drives children to offsite appointments, onsite schooling, activities, and other outings as determined by the program.
- Oversees and encourages children's daily activities, helping to foster a positive and trauma-informed environment.
- Completes and submits internal incident reports accurately and according to protocol within required time frames.
- Model appropriate behaviors (e.g., respect for others, appropriate dress, appropriate conflict resolution, etc.)
- Participate in mandatory training (on-going in-service training program).
- Complete other duties as required by the Supervisor.
- Allocate meds appropriately and follow med distribution procedures.
- Night Shift Only: Perform 15 mins room checks of Youth and Document pertinent information re: student behavior, sleep patterns, occurrences of nightmares, etc.
- Notify Program Director or supervisor of any unusual incidents or emergency situations.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect the privacy and confidentiality of all individuals.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Be self-directed and exercise good judgment.
- Support, encourage, and assist their coworkers as equal team members.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Be teachable and follow directions as given by the Supervisor.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, self-control in crisis situations, relationship building with resistive children, and assertiveness.
- Basic writing and effective communication skills are required, especially relative to shift notes and communication with other staff.
- Must be able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.

To Be Considered, You Should
- Be empathetic, patient, and treat others with respect.
- Must have at least 1 year experience working with a similar population.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Have a desire to work with troubled teens.
- Be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- H gh degree of proficiency with Windows, MS Word, and Excel. Confidence working with technology.
- Must have good verbal, written and oral communication skills.
- Spanish and English (read, write and speak) preferred.
Available Shifts:
Mid Shift - 3pm to 11pm
Weekend Shifts - 7am to 7pm (Sat. and Sun.)
Night Shift - 11pm - 7am
