Actalent Senior Mechanical Engineer in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois

Job Title: Senior Mechanical EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for managing projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate will have the ability to attend kick-off meetings with clients to understand the size, scope, and details of projects, perform field surveys of existing building conditions, and produce load calculations to determine the amount of air, temperature, and water needed to heat/cool buildings effectively. The candidate will design the layout of HVAC and pipes within buildings and review and draft shop drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from start to finish.

  • Attend kick-off meetings with clients to understand project size, scope, and details.

  • Conduct code research to determine project regulations.

  • Perform field surveys of existing building conditions.

  • Produce load calculations for effective heating/cooling of buildings.

  • Design HVAC and piping layouts within buildings.

  • Review and draft shop drawings.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical design experience utilizing AutoCAD for building projects.

  • Knowledge of HVAC, equipment specification, boiler, chiller, building construction documents, site visits, building codes, load calculations, and piping.

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of US building codes.

  • Experience with retail, restaurant, and small-scale commercial projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus, but not required.

Work Environment

The work environment is laid back, anti-corporate, and politics-free with a very tenured team. The office consists of 12 employees, including 4 mechanical engineers, 4 electrical engineers, 2 part-time drafters, and an administrative staff. The company partners with architecture firms, developers, and general contractors across the Midwest to provide a variety of engineering services. The project load ranges from small renovations to large-scale industrial projects across different sectors. End-of-year bonuses are available based on merit. The company is open to candidates creating their own hybrid schedules, but they must be local to the Oak Brook area to complete site visits. Typical working hours are 40-45 hours per week.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $57.69/hr.
