Hillside Family of Agencies Nurse Practitioner Psychiatric in NY, United States

The Nurse Practitioner – Psychiatric diagnoses and treats acute, episodic, or chronic psychiatric illness in youth/individuals receiving health care services at Hillside.

This role can be a blend of virtual & in-person work, but is based in Bath, NY and requires some in-person work for meetings/clients in Bath, NY and the surrounding area of coverage.

Would also consider candidates residing anywhere in Upstate NY with flexibility to commute to the area as needed. Please note that mileage can be reimbursed.

This is a part-time position with 27 target hours per week, on a primarily Monday - Friday day shift schedule, with some on-call availability required.

Essential Job Functions

  • Analyze and evaluate patient histories, symptoms, physical and mental behavior, or diagnostic test findings to develop appropriate diagnosis or extent of mental disorder.

  • Initiate referrals for neurological and other specialist consultations, including psychological testing.

  • Collaborate and consult with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of prescribed medication while considering potential negative side effects. Modify recommended treatment plan, as appropriate.

  • Provide psychopharmacology consultation and recommend patient intervention(s), including prescription of psychotropic and relevant pediatric medications.

  • Provide consultation to the treatment team about clinical issues.

  • Provide patients, family members, and staff with information needed to promote physical and mental health conditions, including medications and treatment plans, as well as to reduce risk factors and prevent disease or disability.

  • Maintain timely, accurate, and detailed documentation and progress notes in the patient medical records.

  • Understand and adhere to all federal, state, and local statutes, regulatory agency standards and Hillside policies including but not limited to all federal, state, and local statutes, regulatory agency standards, and Hillside policies, including but not limited to, Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS), Council on Accreditation (COA) and New York State Education Department (NYSED).

  • Apply and maintain county based Director of Community Services (DCS) Designee status Pursuant to Sections 9.37 and 9.45 of NYS Mental Hygiene Law, as assigned.

  • Provide 24/7 remote on-call coverage for an assigned group of patients, as assigned and scheduled.

  • While this job description covers many aspects of the role, employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program; Master’s Degree in Nursing required.

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Active, unrestricted RN license in NYS required.

  • Active, unrestricted NYS Nurse Practitioner license with a specialty in psychiatric nursing required.

  • Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for minimum of 1 year with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training within 60 days of hire and recertification annually.

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of developmental, behavioral, and mental health disorders.

  • Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.

  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

  • Must be able to work a variable scheduling including evenings and weekends

  • The following physical demands are required:

  • Occasional sitting (up to 4 hours)

  • Occasional standing (up to 1 hour)

  • Occasional walking (up to 2.5 hours)

  • Occasional driving (up to 8 hours)

  • Continuous balancing (up to 8 hours)

  • Occasional balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching forward or down, reaching overhead, running, and twisting (up to 2.5 hours)

  • Weekly lifting up to 50 lbs. (community-based staff may be required to lift an empty wheelchair weighing up to 50 lbs.), 10-15 lbs. on a daily basis

  • Weekly carrying up to 55 lbs. approximately 10-100 ft., 10-15 lbs. on a daily basis

  • Manual dexterity is required, including the frequent ability to grasp in both hands and continuous use of fine manipulation skills in both hands (approximately 1-2.5 hrs.)

  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases or chemicals is apparent.

  • Protective clothing or equipment required: Close toed shoes; Protective Shields, Universal Precaution PPE, Gloves for toileting and food preparation

  • Ability to change positions as needed

    $50.00 Minimum Rate per hour, $80.00 Maximum Rate per hour, based on experience.
