Space Dynamics Laboratory CVS Program Execution Branch Head in North Logan, Utah

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Civil and Commercial Space (CVS) Division is seeking applicants to lead a Program Executing branch to support SDL’s commercial and civil space customers.  This leader will report to the CVS Division Director or Deputy Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide management oversight to Program Managers (PMs) throughout the execution of awarded programs in accordance with approved policies and practices (e.g., typically hardware deliverables)

  • Ensure programs contractually meet their scope, schedule, budget, and risk requirements

  • Implement trades on cost, schedule, and technical performance based on programmatic realities

  • Document lessons learned and coordinate with process owners to implement process improvements where appropriate

  • Ensure customer satisfaction on programs to create opportunities for future business

  • Directly supervise program managers and provide leadership for hiring, mentoring, training, motivating, appraising, rewarding, balancing workload, team building, etc.

  • Ensure PMs provide day-to-day staff tasking and leadership related to program assignments

  • Lead, develop, encourage and support CVS Division strategic efforts

  • Develop a long-term branch strategic roadmap and/or provide strategic planning input to Division Leadership

  • May oversee IR&D activities related to program technologies

  • Develop and maintain customer relationships

  • Encourage program-related technical conferences and published papers

  • Support the publication of technical papers per awarded contracts

  • Coordinate and collaborate with SDL and CVS leadership

  • Oversee program resources needed to meet customer/contract requirements; facilities, personnel, equipment (capital and other)

  • Support leadership initiatives and associated change management

  • Leadership resolution of resource, equipment, and facility needs

  • Communicate effectively and provide solutions

  • Conduct division-level reporting and escalation as required, including weekly status reporting and monthly program assurance reviews

  • Potentially manage a limited number of program(s) as needed and based on workload capacity

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of experience or an advanced degree with at least 8 years of experience

  • Relevant experience with a highly technical organization performing the following tasks:

  • Program management

  • Business development and proposal preparation

  • Contract monitoring/management

  • Document processing and control

  • Cost, risk, and schedule management

  • Procurement

  • NASA or aerospace related program management experience

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to travel

  • Must possess the ability to lead a team while making direct contributions to team success

  • Proactive and self-motivated

  • Skilled in verbal and written communications; able to prepare and present to both technical and administrative groups in an oral presentation format

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Government contract management

  • Experience and expertise in one or more of the following technology areas: sensor (EO, UV, vis); design, development, and test; thermal systems; small satellite systems; and technologies.

  • Understanding of quality processes and procedures

    *Salary Range:

  • $140,000 to $235,000

  • Base salary commensurate on highest level of education and years of directly related experience
