JOB TITLE: Helper, Operations

Location: North Fort Myers, FL; Open to all LCEC Service Centers except Sanibel

Work Hours: Generally, M-F 7:00am- 3:30pm, but varies based on job/work assignment

Position Summary: This position is responsible for performing non-journeymen tasks/functions in the field and shop(s) that require minimal training with minimal-to-no direct supervision. Work activities will normally be assigned by appropriate Supervisor(s) but may be executed under the direction of Journeymen and Lead Journeymen. This position may be required to work irregular/overtime hours, as well as respond to callouts when needed. Reporting location may vary based upon business needs. Helper(s) are expected to report to designated work location, as required, during all phases of Storm Restoration.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties safely and in accordance with LCEC Manual of Safe Practices policies and guidelines .

  • Comply with applicable codes and standards.

  • Perform manual labor tasks and functions.

  • Utilize non-powered hand tools.

  • Operate battery-powered hand tools.

  • Operate low voltage (<240 v) tools & equipment.

  • After appropriate training, operate small equipment (forklift, backhoe, digger truck) under appropriate supervision.

  • After appropriate training, function as a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Flagger.

  • After obtaining appropriate license, assist with positioning of vehicles and equipment between all Service Centers.

  • Work in emergency storm situations (i.e. hurricanes) and work long hours (>12 hours per day) for many continuous days/weeks as needed.

  • Provide assistance to customers, both internal and external to promote a professional, courteous, and cooperative atmosphere.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels within LCEC. Ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts. Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must meet physical demands of all assigned tasks. (Required)

  • Must be able to work within environment requirements (direct sunlight, at night, in inclement weather). (Required)

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. (Required)

  • Must live within 45 minutes commute from regular worksite. (Required)

  • Education and training related to essential functions. (Preferred)

  • Familiarity with personal computers, email, and iPad or equivalent. (Preferred)

    Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License. (Required)

  • Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within ninety (90) days of employment. (Required)

STORM DUTY REQUIREMENTS.... Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment: LCEC provides critical services to our community during an emergency. Employees are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our LCEC members. Employees are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's guidelines and procedures.
