We’re looking for a researcher passionate about improving design to join our new Rapid Design Research team at Splunk!

As a UX Researcher on the Rapid Design Research team, you’ll be involved in a fast-paced program that helps the whole Splunk Design team do their best work. This role will focus on rapid (about 2 week) research cycles focused on generating strong design concepts, evaluating usability, and making sure design team goals are aligned with user expectations. You’ll also help designers across the organization learn about research.

You will help shape this program with your work, and will work with cross-functional teams to advocate for the user by identifying and communicating actionable research insights, through the form of engaging reports.

In this role, you’ll build empathy and understanding of what users need, while closely collaborating with designers, engineering, product management and various other functions daily, to help define the future of Splunk. We’re looking for thinkers and innovators who are willing to challenge the status quo and are energized by developing creative solutions to complex problems.

What you’ll do:

  • Foster UX research and a data driven product design culture.

  • Handle the design, administration, and execution of research studies with minimal guidance.

  • Propose, plan, execute, and deliver user research at various stages of the product development lifecycle.

  • Manage stakeholders, which includes guiding stakeholder discussions with the appropriate user research methods to achieve business and design goals.

  • Partner with UX team members, including managers on research execution and/or design workshops.

  • Understand when secondary research can be relied on, as well as high proficiency in primary research methods such as: running lab studies, conducting user interviews, synthesizing past research, managing datasets, etc.

  • Create deliverables in the form of engaging reports or other materials as needed by the project team.

  • Share research insights with cross-functional partners to create a smarter, more informed, and more empathetic team.

  • Unafraid of creating new systems and processes as needed.

  • This is a very hands-on role, and includes managing participant recruitment, data collection (includes moderating sessions), data synthesis and analysis, and delivery of findings and recommendations.

What you’ll bring:

  • 4+ years of experience doing qualitative and/or quantitative user research.

  • Degree in the field of HCI, Human Factors, Usability Engineering or a related field (advanced degree a plus).

  • Clear understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.

  • Extensive experience with evaluative design research

  • Comprehensive experience planning and executing different types of research and usability testing activities.

  • Experience conducting usability evaluation (e.g., heuristic evaluation, PURE, etc.)

  • Ability to maintain rapid research timelines (e.g., 1-2 week turnarounds for most projects)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and presentation skills.

  • Great organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic organization.

  • Strong sense of independence, ownership, and initiative with an ability to self-direct and manage what to work on, how to get it done, and when to deliver.

  • Effective interpersonal, communication, negotiation and collaboration skills.

  • Not afraid of ambiguity and willing to learn new skills.

  • Experience in a dynamic, iterative development environment, experience with Agile a strong plus

  • Strong presentation and reporting skills

Note:

Base Pay Range

SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area

Base Pay Range: $108,000.00 - 148,500.00 per year

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts

Base Pay Range: $97,200.00 - 133,650.00 per year

All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.

Base Pay Range: $86,400.00 - 118,800.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
