SUMMARY : WR has an opportunity for two Software Engineering Managers to provide technical leadership of software development and functional engagement of assigned personnel. These positions report to the Director, Engineering.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides day-to-day management of assigned personnel, to include handling routine staff issues, resource allocation, training, performance management, career development, compensation management, disciplinary actions, and separation within WR’s matrixed engineering organization.

  • Hires and maintains assigned software engineering personnel.

  • Provides technical management assistance to a group of software engineers within areas of core technical competency.

  • Independently formulates and designs software system, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.

  • Independently develops and directs software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation.

  • Analyzes, defines, and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.

  • Analyzes and estimates feasibility, costs, time, and compatibility with hardware and other programs.

  • Using experience and judgment, develops and maintains plans outlining steps and time tables for developing programs.

  • Stays abreast of emerging technology and industry trends and best practices.

  • Collaborates with project teams to identify potential risk and develops applicable mitigation strategies.

  • Provides research and development support, including new technology and roadmaps, for project designs and products.

  • Participates in the evaluation of new technical resources.

  • Consults with customer to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs.

  • Consults with customers to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements.

  • Consults with customer concerning maintenance of software system. Provides innovative and workable solutions in accordance with specific customer requirements.

  • Collaborates with multi-discipline engineering teams to evaluate internal and external system interfaces and the impacts of software on operational requirements.

    Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or related scientific discipline.

  • Master’s degree in Engineering Management, Business Administration, or in related technical discipline preferred.

  • Ten (10)+ years of professional software development experience in C, C++, C#, Visual Basic and/or other object oriented languages.

  • Demonstrated experience with team/group leadership.

  • Demonstrated software development using one or more of these languages under the Unix, Windows, Linux, and/or other real-time operating systems.

  • Knowledge and understanding of software development methods, processes, and practices.

  • In-depth knowledge of industry standard tools, including Jira, GitHub, and Adobe Dreamweaver.

  • Experience with Agile and/or Waterfall development methodologies.

  • Experience providing full life-cycle engineering support on DoD-sponsored programs.

  • Computer proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
