Embark on an entrepreneurial journey as a Senior Engineer for Energy Management Systems (f/m/d) within our dynamic business incubation unit, where we are committed to help our customers to transition into a low-carbon future through innovative energy solutions. At Siemens, we will revolutionize the way towards decarbonization in an internal start-up approach to working!

As part of this mission, our Energy-as-a-Service team focuses on redefining energy usage for our customers, particularly in smaller commercial buildings. We provide integrated sustainable solutions, including photovoltaic systems, energy storage, and energy efficiency improvements such as lighting, heating, and cooling system retrofits. In combination with our outstanding financing model, we will enable our customers to benefit from energy cost savings and decarbonization without the need for upfront investment!

Our internal start-up is expanding, with a first focus on the USA and plans for global growth. We are looking to extend our team with an experienced Senior Engineer to enhance our capabilities in modeling, simulation, optimization, and performance validation.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Implement pioneering IoT energy management systems for fleets of small, distributed energy systems with mack power functionality, including power control, forecasting, and asset scheduling

  • Develop system control and design modules for key assets such as cooling and heating, solar PV, and batteries and create reliable asset performance tracking algorithms ensuring validation and integration with our software teams

  • Optimize energy tariffs and facilitate energy market access via external partners. This includes i.e. demand charge optimization and demand response.

  • Play a key role in the development of fast, cutting-edge energy system design processes for multi-site sustainability projects

  • Take on the exciting challenge of acting as a mentor and technical lead, promoting emerging technologies in automation, engineering, usability and robustness

  • Manage continuous integration and deployment pipelines, including DevOps practices, application packaging, and infrastructure automation. Conduct laboratory testing and commissioning in pilot projects

  • Lead all aspects of in-field energy management system performance and derive optimization measures

What do I need to qualify for this position?

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in electrical/energy engineering, mechanical engineering, distributed energy systems, building management systems, control theory, automation, signal processing, or related fields

  • Several years of professional experience in real-time data processing, modeling and control automation of systems. Experience in energy system design and techno-economic analysis

  • You have shown ability to build an energy management system and have many years of hands-on experience in the energy domain, including experience with relevant energy assets like solar PV, batteries, electrical and thermal loads, heat pumps, thermal energy storage, heating and cooling systems protection devices in a microgrid context

  • Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language / framework within the energy management domain, e.g. Python, Java, GO, PLC programming languages

  • Extensive knowledge of cloud and IoT technologies and microservice architecture (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), combined with a proven capability in guiding software teams, ensuring robust and validated software functionality

  • Strong communication skills to bridge algorithm development and software development teams

  • Passion for contributing to energy transition and decarbonization

  • Curiosity about driving innovation and developing new business opportunities for Siemens

  • Experience working in agile and international software development teams

  • Readiness for regular international business trips

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, conversational German is a plus
