Naval Education and Training Command TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (NAVIGATION) in Newport, Rhode Island

Summary You will serve as a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (NAVIGATION) in the Navigation & Seamanship Directorate of SURFACE WARFARE OFFICERS SCHOOL. Responsibilities You will instruct staff and students, on Navigation, Seamanship, and Ship handling (NSS), Bridge Resource Management (BRM), RADAR Fundamentals, Automated RADAR Plotting Aid (ARPA), and Leadership. You will make adjustment in instructional methodologies, to perform an analysis of incomplete data, and/or to perform considerable coordination and integration of the work with other functional activities. You will provide instructor led classroom and simulator training in NSS subjects based on SWOS provided curriculum, and in accordance with the NSS Training Requirements Document (TRD) and applicable Train-to-Qualify (T2Q) program. You will define and establish instructional and student performance requirements and standards in alignment with Fleet Skill Objects, Human Capital Objects, and Navy Mission Essential Task Lists (NMETLS). You will review policy decision and safety investigations/mishap reports affecting Navigation, Seamanship, and Ship handling for applicability, incorporate pertinent information into current course content, and brief instructors on revised content. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Instructing students or personnel on navigation, seamanship and shiphandling principles; 2) Utilizing bridge simulators/trainers or similar shiphandling simulators/trainers to demonstrate shiphandling and maneuvering techniques; and 3) Assessing student competency in navigation, seamanship and shiphandling principles. Education Additional Information Work is primarily performed within a properly heated and ventilated, and well-lighted office or classroom setting. However, periodic travel via commercial or military aircraft or ground transportation to various sites to conferences, briefings or meetings, and at-sea underway work aboard vessels may be required as necessary.
