Description/Job Summary

Position Summary

The Shift Leader is a working supervisor who provides guidance to the Food Sanitation Specialist workers to perform general housekeeping duties, sets up, operates, maintains and cleans equipment; set up serving lines, garnishes food items, serves and applies food protection and sanitation measures; all position accountabilities will be performed IAW TB Med 530, TM 4-41.11 and PWS

Position Accountabilities

The following are essential job accountabilities:

  • Ensure that the dining facility is cleaned and sanitized daily.

  • Performs work IAW the cleaning schedule.

  • Maintains compliance of sanitation and food safety standards.

  • Ensure that proper procedures, temperatures and time periods are adhered to during food preparation and serving.

  • Inspects dining area, dishwashing room, pot and pan area, self-service area and outside area.

  • Serve meals and maintain self-service items, ice and beverages during designated meal serving period.

  • Prepare, maintain and clean dining areas.

  • Clean and sanitize dinnerware, utensils and trays to have available to diners without delay.

  • Clean all non-food contact surfaces and clean and sanitize all food contact surfaces.

  • Clean/sanitize all equipment and utensils using mechanical, manual or the in place method.

  • Work to become proficient in their duties.

  • Train Food Sanitation Specialist workers in all areas.

  • Assist with storage of subsistence if necessary.

  • Remove trash and recycle to disposal area.

  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and access areas.

  • Recycle items, empty containers when full and clean the container.

  • Identify and report equipment repairs for work orders

  • Responsible for the inspection of Food Sanitation Specialist workers uniform, to include hair net/or hat, Food Service slip resistant safety shoes and other issued safety items.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Typical Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowlege of basic cleaning procedures, sanitation and the operation of standard kitchen equipment is desired.

  • One (1) year work experience desirable.

Field of Expertise:

    • The food service function (sanitation).

Skills: Administrative:

    • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Must understand and be able to follow instructions.

  • Must be able to train and cross-train.

  • Must demonstrate progressive and continuing improvement.

  • Must have the ability to follow instructions and work well with people.

Mental Requisites:

    • Required to work under stressful circumstances and meet short suspense dates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Experience:

    • One (1) year in a supervisory or management role in the food service function is desired.

Physical Demands:

    • Must be free of medical restrictions/limitations that prevent the performance of the required duties.
  • Must be physically capable of performing work in conditions of extreme weather.

  • May be required to work uncommon hours, extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Must utilize proper lifting procedures and practices.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs and pull, push and lift equipment.

  • Must walk and be on your feet the majority of your shift.

Unique Qualifications:

  • Must be a United States citizen or be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Must be eighteen year of age.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Hourly rate; $19.77

1st shift: 6:00 am - 2:00 pm
