Coastal Community Action Inc. Family Development Specialist in Newport, North Carolina
We are looking for a Family Development Specialist to join our Head Start team at Coastal Community Action! CCA is a private nonprofit corporation providing a variety of services to a target population of low-income children and families in ten counties in eastern NC, with a mission of empowering them to become self-sufficient.
This position works under the Community Services Block Grant Program (CSBG) connecting families with community resources and one-on-one support. Family Development Specialists work on a collaborative team whose essential function is to provide family goal setting, crisis intervention, family stabilization, self-sufficiency, community support and parent engagement activities such as training and workshops.
What You'll Do:
- Pre-screens, assesses, and verifies all intake information related to income and household status to ensure program eligibility for applicant families and individuals.
- Manages an ongoing case analysis of families, determine their needs, and work with all family members to meet specific needs.
- Provides case-by-case assistance to ensure participants obtain housing, employment, training, education, day care assistance, transportation, medicine, food, clothing, utilities, mental health, detoxification, family crisis, and financial counseling.
- Assists families with goal-setting and developing an action plan to work toward economic enhancement.
- Researches services, resources and other funds to supplement program funding to meet the needs of the community.
- Plans, coordinates, and implements workshops and seminars for target population in a variety of cultures.
- Maintains records, data tracking and case notes according to state and federal program guidelines, in addition to policies and procedures set forth by the agency.
- Responds to referrals provided by inner agency staff, community partners, etc. in a timely manner.
What You'll Have:
- A bachelors degree in Human Services or a related field
- Three or more years of experience in case management and working with low-income families.
- Must have basic knowledge of government assistance programs and non-profits, faith-based organizations and other services.
- Valid background clearance
