This role will translate customer insights and manufacturing needs into effective product designs and material specifications. The candidate will use material science and technology fundamentals to deliver innovative solutions that win with customers and drive growth, quality & productivity. Key to the role will be to apply technical and foundational understanding of customer needs to deliver solutions with future competitive advantage and intellectual property. The Shingles Innovation Engineer/Scientist will collaborate with Strategic Marketing, Manufacturing, Science and Technology, Sourcing, Capital Engineering, Intellectual Property, and Product Stewardship organizations to deliver sustainable product solutions. This role will include designing experiments, conducting research and literature reviews, creating prototypes & proof of concepts, planning & leading plant trials, and translating data to technical recommendations. Reports to: Shingles Innovation Leader Span of Control: Individual contributor who works across the Roofing and Science & Technology functions. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrate a Commitment to Safety Identifies and corrects safety hazards in the workplace, improves the safety of our processes, and ensures rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures and OC corporate policies Lead innovation projects from inception through commercialization Develops creative new product innovations while incorporating sustainable and cost-effective designs. Uses material science, technology fundamentals, and experimental designs to quickly create prototypes and scaled-up solutions that win with customers, drive quality/productivity, and create intellectual property. Partners with cross-functional resources to develop and launch products Plans, designs, and conducts independent research on relevant technologies. Coordinates testing, plans and leads plant trials, analyzes data, draws conclusions, makes recommendations, and implements improvements to test methods, processes and products. Practices good Project Management skills for effective execution and clear communication including alignment of team roles, timeline and resource planning, and communication of technical results Utilizes technical literature, conferences, and subject matter experts to remain technically current and grow expertise. Supports the Shingle Aesthetic function through trial leadership and innovative development. Advances technical solutions that resonate with our customers through use of Voice of Customer, Human Centered Design, or other similar methodologies. JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or higher in Scientific or Engineering field such as chemical engineering, material science, mechanical, or chemistry. Other scientific fields will also be considered.
