Summary : Reporting directly to Principal - designs, develops, and serves as Instructor in specialized technical training programs for Locomotive Engineers, consistent with appropriate instructional system design methodology resulting in the successful promotional of Trainees.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Present and deliver technical skills/mentoring training programs for Locomotive Engineers.
Identify and analyze training needs related to specific knowledge and/or skills deficiency for a given population to determine and develop the level of performance required to ensure Trainee success.
Partner with new Instructors and serve as a mentor to deliver training classes, including scheduling, session preparation, and communication with all stakeholders.
Collaborate with the RTD’s Instructional Design & Development Team (IDD) to analyze, continuously update, and improve training syllabi, quizzes, exams, and training materials to advance strategic learning priorities.
Evaluate Locomotive Engineer training programs and analyze performance data to determine the level of performance improvement needed to achieve successful promotion results. Includes providing Trainees with additional training/tutoring as needed.
Evaluate and review training programs developed by equipment manufacturers and other outside training consultants to develop new and/or improve existing course materials.
Partner with CFR-243 Compliance Specialist to maintain compliance with FRA requirements.|
Maintain detailed records of classes conducted, coordinating curriculum updates and changes.
Design and develop and/or evaluate, technical skill training programs in partnership with department stakeholders.
Performs other duties as assigned/directed.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
Minimum:
Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Vocational Education, or related area from a U.S. Department of Education accredited college or university.
Plus three (3) years of experience in rail training, rail management, rail transportation, technical program facilitation, or direct experience (certified locomotive engineer).
Preferred:
Experience in the design, development, presentation, and evaluation of transportation technical skills and/or management development training programs desired.
Knowledge and Skills:
Essential:
Proven ability to effectively supervise, coach, motivate, and mentor students.
Demonstrated teamwork, adept communication abilities, and the capacity to forge successful business alliances with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to demonstrate subject matter expertise in technical knowledge required based on assignment.
Strong presentation, written and verbal skills required.
Ability to manage and resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
Skill/ability to instruct in a classroom, field, and remote (distance learning) environment.
Established proficiency and technology skills, including Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams.)
Exhibits punctuality and exceptional organizational skills to ensure efficiency and reliability in all tasks.
Preferred:
Ability to consistently recognize opportunities for improvement and development, ability to execute on new ideas to improve training programs desired.
Experience using Smart Board technology, Cornerstone, or other Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Appropriate certification (e.g., NORAC, Engineers License, DSLE) is required based on the assignment.
Working Environment
- In person/Office/Remote/Field
Physical Demands
Ability to work on computers both remotely and in office environments.
Ability to stand during in-person training sessions as needed to evaluate Trainees.
Ability to climb onto all types of locomotive cars to evaluate Trainees during fieldwork exercises.
Ability to walk track distance (approx. 1 mile) as needed during field training with Trainees.
