Summary

Roles and Responsibilities:
Plans, designs, and manages complex construction, rehabilitation and/or alteration of structures, facilities, equipment and/or other infrastructure systems within ET (Electric Traction), including electrical systems, catenary and substations.
Coordinates the activities of staff and/or contractors in the design, development and implementation of complex engineering projects, including coordination with other departments and track outages.
Develops standards and criteria for design and construction for complex engineering projects. Develops and designs, proposals, schedules and cost estimates for assigned projects.
Maintains project schedule and project budgets for entire ET Department, and evaluates progress and results of engineering activity; recommends changes to ensure smooth project progress and successful completion.
Liaisons with internal and external groups to facilitate the completion of all ET projects.
Manages the ET Department drawings and documents, including all existing drawings, future, archival and as-built information, manuals, files, etc.
Manages ET Department requisitions, purchase orders and other procurement documents, etc. to ensure that the department complies with all project schedules.
Responsible for ensuring all ET personnel are meeting required competencies, including tracking and scheduling of all licensing, training, qualifications, switching and tagging lists, etc.
Responsible for all ET Department system drawings, documentation, and as-builts. Maintain library, historical data, instruction manuals, maintenance records, SOP’s, etc.
Performs construction inspections to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and codes.
Assists with departmental meetings through documenting outcomes, providing minutes, tracking action items, etc.
Provides support on a 24/7 day basis including responding to system emergencies to ensure safe and proper operations.
Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a US Department of Education accredited college or university, and six years of applied electrical and railroad experience, to include project management.
Knowledge of most or all of: overhead catenary systems, three phase power, protection, substation, transmission and distribution systems is required.
Proficient computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel & Word), Outlook, & Computer Aided Design is required.
One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
