Description

Responsible for overseeing one or more processes pertaining to the treatment of wastewater and/or biosolids. This position is specific to the Thickening Centrifuge Facilities and the ancillary equipment associated with it.

Experience and License Requirements: Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a wastewater treatment facility. A New Jersey Treatment Plant S2 license is required (or must be actively pursuing an S2)*. A New Jersey Collections System C2 license is preferred. This position may work on a rotating shift basis. A valid New Jersey Driver's License is required.

*Actively pursuing is defined as taking the associated State license exam at least 2 times per year until the license is obtained.

Minimum Requirements

Required, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must be able to train and supervise subordinate employees performing various activities dealing with wastewater and biosolids treatment and disposal, as well as assign appropriate tasks. Must be able to prepare concise and accurate reports, provide conclusions, and make recommendations. Must have knowledge and understanding of the laws, rules, and governmental regulations pertaining to all aspects of wastewater and biosolids collection, treatment and disposal, be knowledgeable of the principles and methods used in the treatment and disposal of wastewater and biosolids and be knowledgeable of the occupational hazards and safety precautions exercised in the collection and treatment of wastewater and/or biosolids. Must work closely with the Process Control Department in reviewing and optimizing the thickening centrifuge performance. Must review the thickening centrifuge operators' performance during their respective shifts, provide recommendations if necessary to improve performance and hold the operators accountable for implementing the recommendations. Will be directly responsible for each of the thickening centrifuge operator’s performance. Must work closely with the Process Control Department in developing scheduled shutdowns and maintenance of the thickening centrifuges and their associated equipment. Must be computer literate with the ability to plan, organize, execute and coordinate a computerized maintenance management program. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or the Sciences is preferred. Satisfactory completion of both the Basic and Advanced Wastewater Treatment courses are required. Completion of the Advanced Wastewater Collections course is preferred.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others are maintained. Perform physical activities including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, balancing, walking, stooping, climbing (including ladders), working from elevated areas, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs., handling heavy objects, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, and the minor use of tools. Must have manual dexterity and the ability to use a keyboard, as well as visual acuity, hearing and speaking. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into and work in confined spaces while wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks, as well as Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and required to work indoors and outdoors. Must be available for emergencies or job assignments on a 24-hour basis.
