A Brief Overview

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the configuration, management, and ongoing support of end user desktop systems. This position supports SHC in this capacity as it relates application distribution systems and packaging, image management, and desktop system patch and upgrade execution and testing.

What you will do

  • Respond to resolve incidents related to desktop systems in the SHC environment, serving as a source of engineering support for desktop systems, desktop applications, client encryption and security, or application distribution systems.

  • Assist with the thorough documentation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of standardized processes around desktop and end user system management.

  • Provide functional expertise on projects and assist with requirement gathering, identification of emerging technologies, and business case development.

  • For engineers performing image management, assist with the development of a set of core images and/or core image profiles, including operating systems and desktop application configuration settings, working with application packaging teams to ensure interoperability among the applications that comprise SHC core images.

  • For engineers performing patch and upgrade testing and distribution, evaluate, test, and deploy patches and upgrades and establish processes to ensure proper patch level compliance across the desktop environment.

  • For engineers performing application packaging activities, assist with packaging of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom developed applications for desktop systems across the SHC environment, and evaluate, test, and prepare new applications for distribution across the SHC environment.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced skills with desktop technologies, toolsets, and methodologies such as:o SCCM/SCOMo Windows Installer (MSI)o Active Directoryo Packaging tools such as AdminStudioo VB Script / Powershell

  • Experience performing the activities above in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac operating systems.

  • Ability to effectively interact with all internal and external stakeholders involved in desktop systems support, as well as customers at all levels in the organization.

  • Strong task and time management skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong technical expertise on all aspects of end user systems.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $52.64 - $69.74 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
