Position Summary

A Technician B position is available in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center. Research interests of the laboratory are molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate the development and function of the mammalian blood-brain barrier in health and disease, using genetic, cell biology, molecular, computational, and two-photon imaging technologies. Projects in the lab include discovering signaling mechanisms that regulate barrier development as well as cellular and molecular mechanisms that impair blood-brain barrier function in diseases of the central nervous system such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, and autoimmune encephalitis.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will perform part-time lab management tasks such as ordering and storing lab equipment, supplies, and reagents, preparing lab stock solutions and media, managing a mouse colony, as well as conducting research part-time under the direction of a senior scientist using molecular biology, cell purification and culture, molecular histology and immunofluorescence staining of brain sections, in mouse models of CNS diseases for analysis of blood-brain barrier function.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or equivalent in education, training and experience.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred.
