Position Summary

The Department of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly qualified Technician B. Research topics to be investigated by the candidate include diabetes, cardiometabolic disease, insulin action and insulin resistance, lipid metabolism, and bile acid metabolism. The technician will carry out experiments in mice and cells, and work independently and with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory experiments, analyze and interpret data, generate hypotheses and design experiments.
  • Contribute to manuscripts and give research presentations.
  • Collaborate with other investigators in experimental techniques.
  • Maintain the laboratory and equipment in clean, working order, and purchase new supplies or deal with vendors as needed.
  • Maintain a collaborative and supportive atmosphere for creative and productive research.
  • Commit to the highest standards of integrity and research ethics.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, biostatistics, or other biomedical research related fields.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, as well as independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a research laboratory.
  • Knowledge of related laboratory procedures and techniques.

  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to learn and perform a variety of new techniques.
  • Ability to work with laboratory animals.
  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program.
  • Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
