Position Objective:

Support Metro-North and the Office of System Safety by maintaining data utilized in statistical and quantitative analyses to ensure compliance with Corporate initiatives as well as State and Federal mandates. Act as technical liaison with support departments, members, and outside agencies. Assist with overseeing and supporting the data warehouse management system to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and functionality.

Responsibilities:

  • This position will assist with overseeing, managing, and supporting data optimization with ancillary internal systems in support of the business process and workflows.

  • Develop, maintain, and deliver daily, weekly, monthly , and annual statistical as well as ad hoc reports for internal and external use for trend analysis to meet corporate and organizational needs and requirements.

  • Creates and presents standard reports, responds to queries for ad-hoc reports and forms theories, tests hypotheses , and finds patterns in the data. Capable of creatively presenting information and communicating both visually and verbally in the language of safety to stakeholders. Gleans actionable insight from the data, advises management on trends , and makes recommendation to improve business processes.

  • Collecting, analyzing , and interpreting safety information to determine cause and effect relationships to develop qualitative and quantitative analyses, aimed at reducing employee and customer injuries.

  • Provide backup support on the preparation of reports to comply with regulatory requirements including but not limited to FRA, PTSB, NTSB, CDOT, New York DOT , and government agencies.

  • Strong knowledge of data validation to ensure reporting quality.

  • Problem-solving , analytical, and integrated computer system skills.

  • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with internal and external customers at all levels.

  • Ability to maintain and protect confidentiality while maintaining a high degree of discretion .

  • Project management skills with adherence to deadlines with the ability to handle multiple projects and assignments .

  • Strong time management, organizational, and coordinating skills including appropriate sense of urgency and proactive approach .

  • Ability to exercise a high level of independent judgment and decision-making with a minimum of supervision and guidance.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint , and Access , or demonstrated equivalent software.

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Management, Safety, or a related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials to include four (4) additional years of related experience may be considered in place of a degree.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in data reporting and trend analysis.

    Or

  • Master’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Management, Safety, or a related field and prior internship experience may be considered in place of this experience.

    The following is/are preferred :

  • The following is/are preferred, but other satisfactory combinations of relevant experience, education, and/or technical credentials will be considered:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science , Business Management, Statistics or Safety.

  • Experience performing statistical/trend analysis and utilizing analytical programs.

  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS) .

  • Geography of Hazards .

    This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.

    According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).

    Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
