It aims to foster understanding, tackle global challenges, and promote knowledge exchange. CG includes various key global initiatives of the University, such as Columbia World Projects, the Global Centers, The Committee for Global Thought, The Committee on Forced Migration, and the Institute for Ideas and Imagination.
Position Summary
As Columbia Global is in its nascent phase, the Human Resources Generalist (HRG) will play a critical role in completing tasks related to talent acquisition (e.g., recruitment, applicant screening, selection, and employment processing) as we build our employee workforce. The HRG will also ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the HR unit, handling tasks related to hiring and onboarding, employee transactions, records management and retention, employee engagement, training and development, performance management systems, and compliance. This position will report directly to the Associate Director of Human Resources (ADHR).

Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition, Recruitment & Onboarding (50%)
- Coordinate and facilitate the staffing and recruitment processes for all Columbia Global entities. Collaborate with the HR team and hiring managers to source candidates, post positions internally and externally, and prescreen candidate applications for required skills.
- Work closely with hiring managers to provide applicant data and information and support hiring manager reviews of qualified applicants. The incumbent will schedule and facilitate panel interviews and respond to inquiries from prospective applicants about the recruitment process.
- Initiate reference checks and help facilitate the background check process for position finalists.
- Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding new hires, including university and departmental orientation.
Employee Transactions / HR-Related Functions (45%)
- Process transactions for new and current employees (administrative, academic, and student workers) in PeopleSoft, including but not limited to new hires, appointments and reappointments, payroll (biweekly, semimonthly, additional compensation, etc.), promotions/reclassifications and terminations.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director to process leaves of absence and reasonable accommodation requests.
- Assist with the annual performance management and merit increase process.
- Help organize departmental learning and development initiatives.
- Serve as the first point of contact for all employment-related inquiries, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Responsible for employee engagement activities.
- Maintain employee files and records, both physical and digital/electronic, in accordance with recordkeeping and retention requirements.
Perform other assignments and special projects as needed and assigned (5%).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required plus 3-5 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of HR principles and practices, including familiarity with employment and labor practices.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects with competing priorities.
- Must be detail-oriented and work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
- Have excellent customer service and superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Columbia HRIS systems, PageUp, Interfolio, etc. and external HR platforms such as LinkedIn Recruiter and SkillSurvey.
- Highly proficient in applications within MS Office Suite with the ability to create forms and surveys.
- Manage databases and generate reports as necessary.

Hybrid Schedule
Columbia Global maintains a hybrid work environment that ensures that we preserve the important aspects of our unique in-person university campus culture that support meaningful collaboration and advancement of CG key initiatives. Colleagues will work onsite three of five work days and two virtual days.
