Ethan Allen Retail, Inc. is expanding our leadership team in the NY Metro area, which includes the Manhattan and New Jersey Markets and is based in Midtown NYC.

The Ethan Allen Market Design Leader (MDL) is a senior retail leadership role working closely with leaders, operations associates, and staff designers to achieve sales goals while maintaining positive profit performance, gross margin, inventory levels, and customer service. MDLs are tech-savvy and maintain Design Center image through a planned merchandising program ensuring the Ethan Allen brand is consistent. They achieve budgeted sales growth and establish a plan for continued improvement. They lead by example in cultivating an environment in which the staff is inspired to reach their fullest potential in relation to business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall management of market locations,including leading our Flagship Midtown Manhattan Design Center.
  • To follow Ethan Allen's Leadership Principles including implementing change initiatives and developing successful relationships with team.
  • Holds team accountable while coaching and leading them to meet or exceed established sales goals and benchmarks.
  • Drives new business and increase sales with grassroots marketing initiatives including but not limited to partnering with local businesses, developing the Trade business with the A&D community, as well as using online and social media.
  • Performs all functions necessary for the development of sales and profits of assigned business units.
  • Review P&L statements monthly with Market Operations Leadership and Retail Accountant as well as review final P&L with each Design Center Leader.
  • Develop relationships and participate in community programs which will positively impact assigned design centers and the brand.
  • Supervise and evaluate activities of all associates within assigned area, providing advice, counsel and guidance, leadership, motivation, and accountability for performance. Complete performance appraisals (including annual appraisals and monthly/quarterly reviews) in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies such as Code of Conduct, Workplace Harassment, Sexual Harassment, and Discrimination and/or Retaliation.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to key personnel to ensure revenue growth, financial integrity, and the protection of company assets.
  • Implement company policies and procedures. Monitor compliance and help hold all staff accountable for compliance.
  • Provide training and development for leadership while assisting them with the development of their respective team.
  • Participate in the determination of district market potential, the preparation of expense estimates, and the development of proper financial and asset controls.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions for changes and improvements in policy affecting design centers in the district.
  • Ensure proper reconciliation of inventories as conducted and reported.
  • Propose innovative strategies that support growth and improvement of the business.

Education:

Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Business and/or Design with courses in such areas as accounting, economics, management, or similar courses.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years in retail sales management and merchandising. Experienced in budget forecasting, monitoring and preparation of financial reports, managing sales growth, and procuring profits.
  • Supervisory and multi store management experience required.
  • An entrepreneurial attitude and approach with excellent business sense. Ability to effectively communicate and motivate people.
  • Ability to work holidays, weekends, and evenings as the business demands.
  • Travel within the district is required, which may include limited overnight travel.

Pay Transparency:

Retail leadership compensation is salary plus bonus, paid monthly based on actual written sales of assigned locations. Retail leaders are also eligible to earn an annual profitability bonus. Market Earnings Average (2023): $100,000-150,000
