Job Description

With an overarching mission to eliminate ageism and ensure the dignity and quality of life of approximately 1.775 million older New Yorkers, the New York City Department for the Aging (NYC Aging) is deeply committed to helping older adults age in their homes and creating a community-care approach that reflects a model age-inclusive city.

NYC Aging's Nutrition Management Unit ensures that older adults receive nutritious meals that meet all city, state and federal sanitation and dietary guidelines. This unit provides extensive technical assistance on meal planning, recipe development and food safety. The unit also serves as nutrition experts for NYC Aging's community partners and older adults living in the community who attend older adult center meal programs or receive home-delivered meals.

NYC Aging seeks a creative, dynamic, and motivated college student or graduate student to serve as the Nutrition Management College Aide, reporting to the Senior Director of Nutrition. The College Aide will assist the nutrition management unit with projects and initiatives including but not limited to the following:

*Support the implementation of plant-based meals at older adult center and home delivered meal programs by conducting workshops for older adults and older adult center staff and conducting promotion events.

*Support the implementation of culinary trainings for older adult center and home delivered meal program staff including connecting centers to available resources and conducting monitoring on training goals.

*Shadow NYC Aging's Nutrition Advisors in their work, assessing and monitoring meals served at older adult centers and home delivered meal programs.

*Administer NYC Aging Nutrition Management client satisfaction surveys.

*Assist with other Nutrition Management projects as assigned.

Qualifications

For Assignment Level I:

Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):

Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):

Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE

Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
