GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:
The inaugural Carol B. Grossman Curatorial Scholar is a two-year position in the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts dedicated to the development of curatorial practice in a museum. Under the guidance and mentorship of the ESDA curatorial team, you will be trained in all duties related to the study and care of the permanent collection of the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts. Collaborating closely with the curatorial team, you will be responsible for making our collection more accessible to the public by cataloguing the permanent collection and entering information into TMS and Departmental files.
This is a position with an established end-date or time frame. Time frames will begin upon hire: 2 Years.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:
Catalogue works in the Department’s collection, including compiling information on bibliographic references, exhibition history, and provenance
Authoring entries for the Museum’s website; and social media
Participating in permanent collection installations, including preparing object lists and drafting labels
Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
MA in art history required, with an emphasis in arts related to European Sculpture or Decorative Arts, 1500–1900; 0 – 3 years Museum related experience
Excellent written, oral and editorial skills
Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
Excellent computer skills
Detail oriented with a passion for carrying out scholarly work precisely.
Familiarity with TMS or other collections management software.
Preference for strong reading knowledge in French, Italian or German.
COMPENSATION RATE:
Pay Rate : $33.00 / Hourly

The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.
Location Requirements
At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
