Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer reporting out of our, NY Project Office. The Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE ) will be responsible for the effective administration of the construction contract and will interact closely with the Resident Engineer (R.E) and Construction Manager (CM).
Assist the RE in his responsibilities.
Ensure that record set of Contract Drawings to include all revisions received from the DSDC as revised drawings or by letter and to reflect installed field conditions.
Direct the field inspection staff in the assignment of their duties and reviewing their Daily Inspection Reports.
Attend the Contractor’s Coordination Meetings to resolve conflicts. Obtaining assistance from the CM and DSDC staff as required.
Assure that the T&M records are kept as required.
Inform the CM/RE on issues affecting the progress of the work and recommend courses of action by holding a daily briefing with CM field staff.
Confirm CM Inspection staff is performing tasks in accordance with DEP criteria and guidelines, contract documents, contract change orders and AECOM’s policies and procedures and permit requirements.
Coordinate staging and contractor field operations to ensure that scheduled completion dates are achieved.
Identify issues affecting the progress of the work and recommend solutions.
Prepare communications to the NYCDEP.
Participate in weekly and monthly status meetings.
Act for RE as required.
Participate in the preparation of reports to management as needed.
Preparation of the minutes of all Construction Contract Progress Meetings and any other special meetings required. This will include follow-up for the RE for completion of critical issues and tasks.
Monitoring Construction Management PMIS data files in e-builder to check that data entry is current and accurate. This includes Risk Register, Issues Files, Disputed Work, Claims, RFIs, Payment Tracking, NCR’s, and Correspondence.
Assisting the RE in identifying and tracking of items that require follow-up. This includes identifying when reports are required for the DEP and when aerial photos are taken.
Logging and tracking of all Subcontractor Approval Requests, including checking references and preparation of responses.
Review and check of Contractor’s Request for Partial Payments prior to approval by the RE. Assuring that all required documentation is accurate and complete. This includes monitoring that the required T&M sheets are maintained for extra work and allowances. This also involves maintaining the payment book.
Tracking Contractor’s Certifications of Materials, Designs and Tests to assure that the requirements of the Contract Specifications are met.
Maintaining documentation for Contract Closeout including requirements for Controlled Inspections, Occupation or Use Prior to Completion, Substantial Completion, Extensions of Time and Final Reporting and Equipment Tracking Logs.
Assisting the Permit Administrator to assure that all required permits are in place for work in progress and that permits for new work or renewals are applied for in sufficient time to have them in place when needed.
Maintaining a Log of the Contractor’s Non-Conformances and their status in e-builder. Ensure that inspector’s daily reports are completed in accordance with DEP SOP.

Update and maintain potential change order (PCO) log, generated from RFI responses and ongoing field conditions encountered.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
HS + 6 years of related experience and/or education in construction inspector roles for heavy civil construction projects.
OSHA 10-hour Construction Health and Safety Course.
Due to the nature of projects, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in wastewater process and mechanical equipment installation.
EIT or PE license.
OSHA 30-hour Construction Health and Safety Course.
NYCDEP Scaffolding Training (4 Hour).
NYCDEP Erosion and Sediment Control Training (4 Hour).
NYCDEP BEDC EHS Standards Training (4 Hour).

This position does not offer relocation assistance.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $124,000.00 - $156,000.00.
