The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The position entails overseeing the data base dictionary entries into the Department's laboratory Information System including ICD9, person, client, location, part type, billing, and quick text among others.

Responsibilities

The Application Support Specialist will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • 40% - serve as a point person for users requiring assistance with or corrections to the system's daily operations including but not limited to amendments, addenda, billing, report changes post sign-out, patient merges, case deletions, and specimen moves. Perform data base results retrievals for pathologists, residents and researchers via natural language searches. Monitor, investigate, and resolve errors identified on daily edit logs and document internal errors for section supervisors to assess staff performances.
  • 30% - Monitor and report disruptions in interfaces between results systems and separate web portals, and web portal and office based EMR's. Serve as a liaison between the Department and reporting systems, web portals, EMR and voice dictation companies. Assist with the execution of data security/encryption of PHI.
  • 25% - Assist senior management in the support of the bar coding and specimen tracking system (AB&T). Train new users on Co-Path and AB&T. Will also support digital slide scanning. Assist senior management with the maintenance, upgrades, and implementation of existing Laboratory information systems as well as other new systems. Work closely with representative from each area assigned to gather and review requirements and develop alternative solutions. May edit and create custom reports.
  • 5% - Other related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of related experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records, registration, billing, transcription or other clinical ancillary systems utilized in hospitals and physician practices required.
  • Cerner, Sunquest, Copath or other LIS highly desirable.

Other Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Clinical/pathology laboratory experience and /or healthcare IT experience required.
  • Must successfully complete systems training
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to think creatively, often finding multiple solutions to a single problem.
  • Attention to detail, ability to set priorities and meet deadlines a must.
