The Global Operational Risk & Oversight (GORO) organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all business units, functions, processes, and geographies at American Express.

The Enterprise Risk Management (“ERM”) & Strategic Initiatives team within GORO provides an independent view of risks faced by American Express and is responsible for aggregating the risk profile for the Company. The team is focused on key risk management activities, including but not limited to, risk identification, risk appetite framework and independent oversight principles, supporting the year end risk assessment for the Company, and leading key projects that deliver on the strategic priorities of the Head of Enterprise Risk Management.

These responsibilities span the AXP Bank Holding Company as well as the subsidiary US Bank (American Express National Bank).

Specific responsibilities for the Manager - ERM & Strategic Initiatives include:

Risk Frameworks and Reporting :

  • Develop, maintain, and execute on the enterprise risk management governance frameworks (e.g., risk assessment, categorization of oversight results, etc.)

  • Own and ensure compliance with the Enterprise Risk Management and Global Risk Oversight policies, and procedures (e.g., Enterprise Risk Oversight Policy)

  • Support the identification and monitoring of the risk universe including key emerging risks and external trends

  • Develop new frameworks to strengthen independent risk management and oversight structures for the Company

  • Conduct enterprise-wide risk reporting on a periodic basis to Risk Committees, Senior Management, and the Board as required

  • Own the reporting of key risk indicators to the Risk Performance and Incentive Rewards Committee (RP&IRC)

  • Conduct the year-end risk aggregation reporting to assess the health of the risk pillars across the Company and provide support to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in drafting and publishing the year-end CRO assessment memorandum.

Strategic Initiatives:

  • Support various strategic initiatives and special projects pertaining to risk management. Topics include but not limited to: aggregating risks and providing effective performance monitoring related to new product launches.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 2-3 years’ experience in Risk Management, Finance, or Management Consulting

  • Strong organizational and process management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and complete deliverables under critical timelines

  • Sharp attention to detail, internal quality controls and ability to learn quickly and adapt to evolving requirements

  • Advanced degree (Masters/PhD) in business (e.g., MBA, Finance, Risk Management, Economics) is preferred

  • Self-motivated and team-oriented with a strong focus on collaboration

  • Self-confident with a sense of integrity and ownership towards work products

  • Ability and willingness to challenge the status quo and be a change agent in designing new risk management frameworks

  • Effectively develop presentation materials with clear, concise, and compelling messaging

  • Proven ability to process large quantities of data and information and develop effective presentation materials with clear, concise and compelling messaging for senior management

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (both MS-PowerPoint and MS-Word) with strong executive presence

Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
