Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz and the Office of Human Resource, Diversity, and Inclusion (HRDI) seeks a dynamic, organized and diligent individual for the position of Assistant Director of Benefits. This position is a Management Confidential position. Under the supervision of the Director, this position will focus on benefits enrollment and changes, retirement advising and processing, maintaining records for reporting and audits, as well as transactions pertaining to these services.

In addition, the successful candidate must have generalist experience with knowledge to provide support for leave management, ADA request and coordination of accommodation, as well as workers compensation when needed. The position requires a high degree of organization and attention to detail, careful and complex calculations for deductions and salary adjustments required in the administration of benefits. The Assistant Director will be asked to present orientation as well as other training and workshops. The position will work closely with the HRDI and Payroll staff, Civil Service, SUNY as well as vendors to provide timely Benefits support to over 1,100 employees in various bargaining units.

Qualifications: Required:• Bachelor’s degree• Working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations from federal, state and SUNY system (Defined Benefit (pension) and Defined Contribution Retirement System, NYS Benefits Administration, FMLA, Civil Service time and attendance, ADA, Collective bargaining agreements, Board of Trustee Policies, Worker’s Compensation, etc.)• Collegiality and professionalism• Commitment to modeling and cultivating an inclusive and equitable institutional culture• Critical thinking• Excellent attention to detail and organization• Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team• Highly effective verbal and written communication skills• Creative problem solving• Effective public speaking and presentation skills/training• Occasional travel for professional development and/or in representation of the college• Service to the institution and other duties as assigned• Effective time management skills to meet payroll and benefit deadlines

Preferred:• At least three years of Benefits experience
