Educational Systems Technologist

\ \ DATE: June 13, 2024\ \ FROM: Human Resources\ \ POSITION: Educational Systems Technologist (FT)\ \ Effective immediately: (FT) Educational Systems Technologist Online and Educational Technology Department, Wilmington University\ \ Requirements: A Bachelor\'s degree from a focused program in technology, computer science, or a related field is required. 1-3 years of experience with utilizing APIs to manage software systems. 1-3 years of experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and/or Python to create and edit existing web content. Basic experience with video editing and experience with the Canvas learning management system is preferred, but not required. The incumbent must have excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to work with diverse populations. Must be self-directed and able to make decisions related to assigned projects independently. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and database products. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite experience is preferred. Experience with video/audio technology, Canvas, Respondus Monitor, TurnItIn, and other educational technologies is preferred. Training will be provided to learn existing workflows and batch API processes that are necessary to manage the Canvas LMS. The position will require a strong knowledge of data structures and relational database concepts. The incumbent must have strong computer skills, including but not limited to the areas of technical writing, Microsoft Excel, APIs, and web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python. The incumbent must have polished interpersonal and verbal/written skills with a strong commitment to quality customer service. Must be detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to make decisions related to assigned projects independently. Must maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all situations. Must demonstrate respect for diversity in the workplace and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees.\ \ Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Serve as lead or co-administrator for various educational technology systems (Canvas, Respondus Monitor, Learning Stream, Turnitin, etc.).
  • Monitor cloud-based servers and technical architecture of educational technology systems.
  • Manage content loads for the university\'s online courses using API calls within an API client such as Postman. Perform additional API calls to manage systems as needed.
  • Collaborate with the university\'s Information Systems and Information Technology teams to implement and maintain Single Sign-On (SSO) and/or data-loading processes for educational technology systems. In addition, integrate the LMS with the SIS to automatically load in users, courses, and course enrollments, and identify and resolve issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to deploy planned system updates, maintenance events, and full system outages; communicate this information to users as needed.
  • Troubleshoot system access issues, manage system access requests, and process employee separations. These tasks are highly deadline-driven.
  • Answer assigned SysAid tickets and escalate unresolvable issues to third-party vendors.
  • Work with stakeholders to notify users and resolve the issue as quickly as possible, in the event of a major system outage. This may require occasional coverage for after-hours.
  • Install, test, configure, and maintain new and existing LTI tools in the LMS.
  • Implement new or replacement educational technology systems, including the migration of data.
  • Customize the functionality of educational technology systems using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Write, record, and edit training videos, web content, and other materials for consumption by faculty, students, and staff.
  • Possess polished interpersonal and verbal/written skills with a strong commitment to quality customer service.
  • Assist with various support projects as assigned by the director or assistant director.
  • Serve on internal committees, such as the Student Systems Group.
  • Maintain documentation on internal business processes that are stored in the employee intranet and/or Teams.
