The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Aging and Disability Services Division is currently recruiting Psychiatric Nurse 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the following program: Desert Regional Center (DRC).
The Psychiatric Nurse 2 serves as the Nurse Case Manager to Desert Regional Center Intermediate Care Facility/IID. Desert Regional Center Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities or related conditions, is a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service Program (CMS), which is regulated and licensed by Nevada's Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance (HCQC). The ICF provides health and/or rehabilitative residential services to persons and must meet CMS Appendix J Tags and Nevada Chapter 1600. Duties will include complying with the Federal Conditions of Participation in eight areas, including management, client protection, facility staffing, active treatment services, client behavior and facility practices, health care services, physical environment and dietetic services. The incumbent must establish and maintain a good rapport and working relationships to foster intra and interdepartmental communications necessary for the delivery of quality care. Duties will include writing care plans and support plans and attending team meetings and doctor's appointments with individuals served. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.Special Notes
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience. Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
